Hunt Cast Away With Hanks

Since winning the Best Actress Oscar last March for As Good as It Gets, Helen Hunt has been quietly toiling away on her barely breathing NBC sitcom Mad About You. But she's about to blast back onto the big screen with a film that almost can't miss. The Hollywood trades report that Hunt has signed on to appear with two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the Robert Zemeckis-directed pic Cast Away. The film centers around a man stranded on a desert island and his struggle to stay alive. Hunt will play Hanks' girlfriend, who at the beginning of the film is fed up with his inability to commit. According to Variety, Hunt's role will be relatively small and possibly unbilled, and she'll appear only at the start and end of the movie. Hanks reportedly plans to lose about 40 pounds to convincingly play a man stranded alone for four years, and production will be halted midway through so he can starve his body into emaciated form.
