Nine Inch Nails "Something I Can Never Have" Pretty Hate Machine (c) 1989 TVT Music, Inc. Written by Trent Reznor GM Sequencing by Warren Rice, Seattle, WA. I've provided both .MID and .WRK versions of this sequence. The .WRK is a Cakewalk Professional 2.01 file and contains markers to help you follow along. This was a relatively simple song to sequence (2 evenings start-to-finish), using Cakewalk Pro 2.01 and a Roland SCC1. If played on a decent General Midi device, it should sound VERY close to the original, right down to the panning of the drums. Unfortunately due to the limited number of drum samples on the SCC1 (or any other G.M. device), I had to scrounge for samples that sounded "similar" to whatever Trent used. (Oh what I would have done for the "Impact" sample on my Alesis SR-16!) As usual, I have not included a vocal track. I am of the opinion that a synthesized vocal track detracts from the music. Besides, it's much more fun to sing along. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to contact me via Email on AOL at WARRENR287.
