***************************************************************** A Lost and Found cat Part 2 : New Name A Ranma1/2 Fanfiction Written by Jenny 'Android18' Chan android18@hotmail.com www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Pagoda/index.html ***************************************************************** "She doesn't know who she is!" Alfred Whitmore cried to the Doctor, who nodded impatiently. "Yes, Mr. Whitmore. It is not uncommon for victims of such injury to lose their memory. What we'd like to find out is who we can contact, so her identity came be found." Alfred sighed. "She's not from my neighborhood. I would have noticed her around before. She doesn't speak Japanese very well, and her mother language is Chinese. Could that be a clue?" The doctor considered this. "It is a valuable clue. But until we can find her family, if she has any, we need her to stay somewhere, and frankly, the hospital doesn't have much room." Alfred frowned. "This girl has near fatal injuries, and she can't stay at the hospital?!" The doctor gave an embarrassed laugh. "Well, at the rate she is recovering... it's astronomical! I've never seen anyone recover so fast before! Her condition is stabled and minor, although they were critical and major just hours before... We see no reason to keep her here." "Where will she stay?" The doctor looked right at Alfred. "Well..." Alfred raised an eyebrow. "Oh no you don't! My place isn't fit for swine! I'm only living there temporarily!" "Mr. Whitmore, until we find out more about her, you are the person closest to her! If you do not take her..." Alfred sighed. He poked his head through the doorway and saw the Chinese girl was sleeping peacefully. "I have exams coming up... but as long as she isn't too much of a hassle..." The doctor laughed. "Don't worry. She will be confined to a bed for a week. You won't have to worry about her!" ***************************************************************** Alfred was trying to study at the kitchen room table. The girl who was suppose to be confined to her bed for a week, was NOT confined to her bed. In fact, she was walking to and fro in front of Alfred looking at this and that, and asking question after question after question. ~The doctor was wrong...~ Alfred thought to himself as he watched the girl walk. Alfred had to admit to himself, that her rate of recovery was startling. She resembled nothing of the bloody mess he had discovered just a few days ago. Her hair was now clean and hung freely. She sparkled with energy and vitality. The only evidence of the little episode, was that her left arm was in a cast, and a few bandages and scratches dotted her complexion. ~Not that they'd be there for long,~ Alfred realized. Already, the jagged scars he had seen before were now thin white lines that would disappear into nothingness. She picked at a coffee pot (brand new) and smiled at it for a moment. "[Does it remind you of anything?]" Alfred asked hopefully. She shook her head. "[It just looks nice. That's all.]" Alfred sighed. She looked at Alfred, suddenly bashful. "[The doctors say that you were the one that brought me to the hospital. Is this true?]" Alfred nodded. She smiled at him. "[I owe you my life, Alfred. Thank you. When I remember who I am, I will repay you.]" Alfred laughed. "[Let's not talk about that now. What I want to know is, what I should call you. I don't know your name, and I don't want to call you 'hey you, girl'.]" Alfred studied the girl for a moment as she moved about the kitchen. Suddenly, he felt something rub against his leg. Startled, he looked down, and saw a small brown kitten rubbing against his leg. Alfred smiled, and lifted the kitten up, placing it onto the table. "Hey Fuzzball! Oh, I'm sorry I've been ignoring you lately, but I had to study!" Fuzzball mewed, and looked at the girl, staring at the cat intently. Alfred noticed this and frown. "[Is something wrong?]" The girl shook her head and went up to Fuzzball. "[Is this your cat?]" Alfred shrugged, "[sometimes. I don't know who owns her. Sometimes, she gets into the house and I've given up trying to keep her out. Besides, with those pitbulls around, I don't want this little lady outside. I wonder how she ever survived before she found me.]" "[She's very cute.]" The girl petted the kitten, which in turn, started to purr. When the kitten started to purr, it seemed to make the girl content, and she made a purring sound too. ~She's... purring? Hmm... that gives me an idea...~ Alfred mused. "[What is so funny?]" She asked. Alfred grinned. "[I'm gonna give you a name. What do you think about Kitty?]" The girl seemed to think about if for a while before she gave Alfred a dazzling smile. "[Kitty is a wonderful name. From now to forever, I will be Kitty to you.]" "[Or until you remember your real name.]" Kitty shrugged. "[Which ever comes first.]" Fuzzball protested loudly when Kitty stopped petting her. ***************************************************************** The next day found Alfred staring at Kitty intently, while she was thinking hard. "[Well?]" Alfred asked. Kitty sighed and shook her head with a frown, "[I don't think I know any Japanese.]" "[Ya know, I kidda find that hard to believe sense we happen to be in JAPAN.]" "[Maybe you can teach me?]" Kitty asked hopefully. "[Me? I can't. Sorry. I have exams coming up, and if I'm ever gonna get my destination, I can't spend my time teaching you Japanese,]" Alfred replied flatly. Kitty stared at her feet. "[Oh.]" She had a look of such sadness, that Alfred instantly regretted his words. He tried to ignore the woeful girl in front of him and concentrate on his work, but he couldn't help feeling like a jerk. Finally, he sighed, and put his books down. Kitty looked at him hopefully. "[Let's go to the library. I'll find you some material that could teach you Japanese. Okay?]" Kitty gave a squeal of joy, and gave Alfred a hug over the table. ***************************************************************** Alfred looked up from his work every few minutes to see Kitty totally absorbed in a book. He would look up another few minute later, and find that she was reading another book already. He decided to test her. "So how are you doing?" He asked. Kitty looked up. "Kitty doing fine, thank you." Alfred raised an eyebrow. "Hey, you're speaking Japanese!" "Yes. Kitty think Kitty know Japanese before because books seem easy. Kitty speak good, yes?" "Uh, that would depend on your definition of good," Alfred replied. "You... realize you are speaking in third person term?" "Kitty no know what third person term means." "That's where you refer to yourself like you someone else refers to you. When you're talking about yourself, you usually say 'I' or 'me'." Kitty thought about it for a moment, "So, Kitty, uh... Me should not be calling I, 'Kitty'?" "Uh... well, I'm sure you'll get the idea pretty soon." Suddenly, Alfred's watch beeped and he jumped to his feet, staring at the time. "It's 4:00 already?!" Alfred cried, "man, I have to get home! I have to work today!" "Work? What you work?" Kitty asked. "Huh?" Alfred asked, while, putting his books into a back pack and generally trying to pack up. "Oh! I use to be a butler at this rich guy's house. Then I decided to get a better education, because I had no intention of being a butler for the rest of my life. Now, I just butler for the guy once or twice a week, so he can show off to his friends." Alfred grabbed Kitty's books, and signed them out before he grabbed Kitty's good arm and pulled her out of the library. They were running back to Alfred's house which was quite a ways away, when Alfred noticed that Kitty hadn't even broken a sweat by the time he was gasping and panting for air. "Hey... you... you must've been... an... an.. athlete or... some...something," Alfred said, "you... you're in... great... shape..." Kitty shrugged. "Maybe." The two were going to cross a street when a speeding BMW suddenly turned a corner, and drove right pass them. Alfred screeched to a stop to avoid getting run over but Kitty simple kept running, jumped onto the roof of the BMW, vaulted off of it and on to the other side of the car. The car was moving when she was doing it, and screeched to a halt down the street, leaving skid marks. She was going to keep running, but noticed that Alfred had stopped, and looked back at him to see him staring at her. Kitty frowned and came back to Alfred. "What Alfred waiting for?" "Y-You vaulted over that car!!" Alfred cried. "Yes. Is that bad?" Kitty asked, confused. Alfred stared at Kitty, then shook his head and gave a nervous laugh. "Wow. You must have been an acrobat! That was amazing." "Thank you." The engine of the BMW suddenly roared, and Kitty and Alfred looked up at it. Alfred instantly gave a growl of dislike. "Oh great. It's them again." "Who they?" Kitty asked. "They're the sons of some of my employer's friends. They kept making fun of my, saying serving is an old person's job. They just live to make my job harder than it really is." "Why they do that?" "Some people are just jerks, Kitty." "Why don't you hit them?" "Violence is seldom the best answer to something," Alfred said. "Besides, they're all martial artists. I'd get my butt kicked so hard, I'd be feeling it my next life!!" The BMW roared and stopped right in front of the two. The doors opened, and three large and muscular men stepped out of the car, all wearing nice clothing. "Hey what's the big idea, Whitmore?!" One of them shouted. "We didn't do anything, Honshi-san." Alfred replied. "That chick of yours jumped on our car!!" Honshi snarled. "What was she doing?! She could have scratched it! I just got a new paint job!!" Alfred subconsciously stepped in front of Kitty, who was feeling very confused. "She didn't know any better. Forgive her." Another man laughed, "like hell we'll forgive her! This car is worth more than the both of you combined!" Honshi stepped right up to Alfred, purposely invading his space. "You better watch it Alfred. If we tell your boss, off goes your salary, then you'll never be anything better than a servant." He poked Alfred twice in the chest sharply. Alfred winced, and stepped back almost tripping over Kitty. He didn't say anything. Honshi grinned. "But tell you what. If you kiss my shoes, then we'll call everything even. How's that?" Alfred's eyes flashed angrily and he clenched his fists. Kitty noticed this and realized that Honshi was just trying to bait Alfred into a fight he would surely loose. "I won't kiss your shoes!!" Alfred snarled. "Even if they DO smell better than your breath!" Honshi lost his grin, and grabbed Alfred by the front of his shirt, He lifted him up a foot into the air. "What did you say, Whitmore? Are you looking for the tooth fairy or something?" Honshi made a fist and pulled it back, ready to give Alfred one hell of a bruise. His fist came forward, and Alfred braced himself for the attack. It didn't come. Kitty moved her hand in front of Alfred's face and stopped the fist. Honshi was so startled, he dropped Alfred. Kitty instantly pulled Alfred behind her and instinctively got into a ready position. "Kitty no know why you want fight," Kitty snarled, "but Kitty started this, so I give you fight! No hurt Alfred, he no know how to fight." Honshi regained his composure and laughed. His two friends laughed behind him. "What's this? The lady wants to fight me? Ha! Listen girl, do you know who I am?" "You bad man who want fight. I give to you!!" Honshi smirked and got into a ready stance. "Suit yourself then. I don't usually hit girls, but you've got me mad." Honshi gave a battle cry and punched with his left fists. Kitty caught the fist with her right, and held it. Honshi was startled but began punching and jabbing Kitty with his right fists. He was very surprised to see that she had managed to evade every single one. "Hiya!!" Kitty cried as she snapped kicked. Her foot connected solidly with Honshi's chin and he sailed a few feet away, landing on the ground, gasping. He sat up, clutching his chin. He motioned to his other two friends. "What are you waiting for? GET HER!!" The two moved in on Kitty, who kicked one in the throat, taking him out. The last one managed to block all of Kitty's kicks. She got back into her ready position. The man moved forward, punching at her. Kitty evaded all the punches. Then, she put her good hand behind her back, and grabbed her bonbori from out of nowhere, clubbing the third man over the head. The man fell to the floor, dazed. Kitty looked back at Honshi, who was staring at her. "You no be mean to Alfred anymore, okay?" "Yes ma'am!! Whatever you say!! Will do!" Kitty smiled. "Good. Come Alfred. We go home so you can go work, yes?" Alfred stared at Kitty. "R-Right. Sure..." ***************************************************************** The two were a few blocks away and Alfred was talking to Kitty, and waving his hands about excitedly. "How did you do that, Kitty?! That was amazing! You took those guys out in... like... 3 seconds! And that bonbori, wow, where did you get them?!" Kitty gave a cry of surprise and looked at her hand to see that she still had her bonbori. "How did Kitty get these?" Alfred stared at the bonbori. "What? You mean you don't know?" Kitty shook her head. "No! Just... during fight, realize needed weapon... and... got these from somewhere..." Alfred blinked. "So can't you put them away?" Kitty shrugged. "Maybe." She moved her arm so that the bonbori was on one side of her head. Then, she moved her arm so that the bonbori was behind her back. When she moved her arm back to her side, the bonbori were gone. "There!" Alfred stared. "How did you do that?!" He walked behind Kitty and pat her on her back. "Hey, they're not there! How did you do that?!" Kitty giggled. "No know! Just... something said to do that, and it worked!!!" "You are going to have to show me that sometime." "Okay." *****************************************************************
