***************************************************************** Amazon Street Fight Part two: Exhibition mayhem A Ranma/Street Fighter Crossover Jenny 'Android18' Chan android18@hotmail.com www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Pagoda/4071/index.html ***************************************************************** Chun-li stopped in front of the hotel she was staying at, and leaned on a light post, breathing deeply. After running halfway across town in 5 minutes, she deserved the rest. Chun-li swallowed, caught her breathe, and walked into the hotel, to see many people angry people walking about the reception area. Chun-li blinked, and found Cammy who was standing with her arms crossed, a frown on her face. "Hey, Cammy. What's going on?" "Chun-li! Where have you been?" Cammy asked, "well anyway, can you believe this? The organizers want us to show some of our techniques, and do a bio on each us at the exhibition tomorrow!" Chun-li raised an eyebrow. "And?" "Well, the others aren't very happy about it!" Cammy retorted, "you know, some of us win our matches by having our opponents under-estimate us! If we show our moves and tell people about ourselves, we'd be throwing away our matches!" Chun-li nodded. "I understand now. So what's happening?" "Most of the guys are refusing to do the exhibition. The planners are saying that it was stated specifically what was to happen when we signed up for this thing, and that if we don't do this thing, we're all gonna get sued! This sucks! I mean, they're exploiting us!" Chun-li frowned. "Sued? Hmm... we can't have that happening now can we?" Chun-li walked away from Cammy, towards the front of the room, where a heated 'debate' was happening. "Chun-li, what are you doing?!" Cammy cried. "Don't worry," Chun-li called back. When she got to the front of the room, Chun-li saw that most of the people had arranged themselves into a circle around a man wearing a red karate gi, and a man wearing a suit and waving paper around. "Look Mr. Walker!" The man in the gi shouted, "we're not doing this, and that is that!" "You HAVE to do this, Mr. Masters! You signed the contract, and now you'll have to abide by the rules on it!" Walker waved the papers in his hands for emphasis. Fire appeared around Masters's fist, and he clenched his teeth, staring at Walker, who gulped. "Don't touch me, Mr. Masters. If you do, not even YOUR wealth will keep you out of jail." Masters snarled, and snatched the contracts out of Walker's hands so fast, Walker wasn't even aware that the papers had been taken, before he saw Masters waving it in front of his face. "Mr. Masters! Give me those!!" Masters ripped them into little bits of confetti and threw them into the air as a response. Walker gapped at the bits of paper floating around him, before he straightened his suit, and calmed down. "That did not help anything, Mr. Masters. We have several hard copies of all the documents, as well as several disks copies as well. You can't destroy everything." "Why you little-" Masters was about to do something he was going to regret when he suddenly felt someone grab his arm and stop him. He turned his head and saw that Chun-li had a steel grip on his arm. "Hey you! I remember you from last year! You're-" Chun-li stepped in front of Masters and walked right up to Walker, who backed down from her. But after seeing that she had not physical hostility towards him, he walked back up to her, hoping to scare her. She didn't budge. "Good morning, Miss Zhang." Walker said, "what can I help you with." "Actually, Mr. Walker, I was wondering if I could beg a favor from you." "A favor?" "Yes. About the exhibition tomorrow. Cut out the personal bios and the technique demonstrations." "I'm sorry, Miss Zhang. I can't do that. I can't stop the exhibition. We've already sent the flyers out to the new challengers and everything-" "I never said anything about stopping the exhibition. Just don't do the bios and technique demonstrations." "But that's what the entire exhibition is to be based on!" "No. That isn't true. You can talk about the past of Street Fighting, and it's evolution and what not. You can introduce the grandmasters. Seeing as to how they are not here, they can't object to that." "That's a very good idea, Miss Zhang, but I'm afraid that the crowd that the tournament usually draws in wants moves to be shown." "Moves?" Chun-li asked, "well. We can have a few fights then. I see you set up a fight between Ryu Honshi and myself. If it is alright with Honshi-san, then we will fight. Honshi-san?" The whole room looked around, and found Ryu standing near the back, leaning against the wall, his arms crossed. He thought about it for a moment, before nodding. "That is do-able with me." "Good. We can organize some other fights to be set up. I'm sure that it's alright with everyone to show off their techniques if it's in battle. Right?" There were murmurs of agreement, and several nods, and Chun-li smiled at Walker. "I believe we have reached an agreement Mr. Walker. What do you think?" Walker thought about if for a moment, before nodded. "All right. That will do very nicely." He nodded towards the other contestants. "I must go do some paper work now. Excuse me." Then he left. As soon as Walker left, the room broke into talk. Masters came up to Chun-li and clapped her on the back. "That was some good talking Miss Zhang. May I interest you into becoming my lawyer?" "Not a chance, Ken Masters." Chun-li replied. "I happen to like my job." "Still hunting for Bison, Chun-li?" Ken asked. "I'm not going to stop until I have his head on a platter." Ken nodded, understanding. Just then, Ryu came and faced Chun-li. Chun-li bowed to him. "Thank you, Honshi-san. If you did not agreed to have a fight with me... I don't know what would have happened." "Don't need to thank me," Ryu replied. "I said yes, not because I wanted to avoid getting sued, but because I truly wanted to fight you. Last year, you were a formidable fighter. You seemed to have improved even more, and I am eager to test you. I think, if anyone should thank another person, it should be me thanking you." Chun-li smiled, and felt herself blush. ~I can't believe it! The Champion who defeated Bison last year... wants to challenge me! Little old me!~ Ryu bowed to Chun-li, before moving away. Cammy soon came up to Chun-li and waved her hand in front of Chun-li's face. "Hey. Hey! Earth to Chun-li? Helllloo? Anyone home?" Chun-li came out of her trance, and blinked at Cammy. "Huh? What? What do you want?" Cammy grinned. "Why Chun-li, is that a blush I see upon your face?" "Blush? Nah. Nah. No way! Get outta here!" ***************************************************************** The next day, Cologne and Shampoo got up early, and went to the place, where the exhibition was to be held, hoping to meet Chun-li. Unfortunately, even though they had gotten up very early, so had the rest of Nerima, and the entire 'Ranma gang' was milling around the place, causing random chaos. Shampoo was trying to get close to Ranma, but Cologne had stopped her on all occasions. "Listen, Great-grand daughter." Cologne said, "I don't say this often, but I don't want you to chase Ranma today, alright? Today we must concentrate on meeting Chun-li." Shampoo gave a sigh and looked at Ranma, who had Ukyou and Kodachi attached to his arms, wistfully. "Yes, great-grandmother. Shampoo will do as told." "Good. We must try to meet Chun-li before she has her match with Ryu Honshi. Hmm... I believe all of the champions will be... behind that stage there. Child, come with me." Cologne and Shampoo made their way behind to the back door of the stage, hoping to slip in, only to find a large man who towered over Shampoo, guarding the door. The man looked down at Shampoo, dismissing Cologne. "Hey, little girl. What are you trying to do? Get you and your pet monkey out of here!" Shampoo blinked. "Monkey?" "Yes, monkey," the man said. "Hey, that's pretty good! You taught it to balance on a stick. That's nice, but I'm afraid you have to go now." Cologne bristled. "Young man, I am NOT a MONKEY!!" The man jumped. "Whoa! It talked! It's not a monkey!" "I am this girl's great-grandmother. My name is Cologne," said the old woman. She hopped forward on more step and stared up at the man, anger right on her face. "Do NOT ever mistaken me for an ape, EVER again, or you will regret it." "Uh...Uh... right. What do you want?" Cologne forced herself to calm down. "Both me and my great grand daughter are big fans of Chun-li's, and we were wondering if we may go inside for an autograph." Shampoo scrunched up her face, confused. ~Shampoo big fan of Chun-li's? When this happen?~ "Well... I'm sorry, ma'am, but no one is allowed in here." "Surely you can make an exception for an old woman and her innocent granddaughter?" "Sorry, but NO ONE is to be allowed in. I'll get in trouble if I let someone it." "I'll make it worth your while." "Huh?" Cologne took one of the man's hands, and dropped several gold coins into it. "How's that?" "!!!!!" The man stared at Cologne, "uh... well... okay, I'll let you in, but don't go causing trouble, alright?" "What trouble can a young girl and an old crone possibly cause?" Cologne asked, walking through the door that the man had opened, Shampoo trailing behind her. Shampoo's eyes went wide when she got into the room. There were people shouting and running around, dressed in various combat uniforms. Cologne stopped walking and stared at the people who would walk by her. "I-Incredible!" "What is it, great-grandmother?" "I've never sensed so many powerful auras in the same place and time before!" "Yes! Shampoo sense many powerful people too! Many more powerful than even Ranma!" Cologne nodded. "Yes. But we don't have time to just stand here and compare auras. We must find Chun-li." Shampoo tapped the shoulder of a man passing by. He was wearing a red karate uniform and he lifted his blonde eyebrows when he saw Shampoo. "Hey, you're not one of the fighters! How'd you get in here? Can I help you?" "Hello! Can please tell me where Chun-li Zhang please?" "Chun-li? She's over there." "Sei sei ne!" "No problem. Hey, that's a cute monkey you have!" "Uh... better get out of here before great-grandmother hear you call her 'monkey'." "Huh?" "WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE?! I AM NOT A MONKEY!!" "Hey, it talks!" Shampoo managed to stop Cologne from murdering Ken, pulling her towards Chun-li. "Great-grandmother! Great-grandmother! No! Stop! No hurt him, he no know! Come, we see Chun-li first, yes? Great-grandmother, stop!!" Cologne stopped struggling, and regained her composure. "You are right, Shampoo. Come, we'll go see Chun-li." Cologne and Shampoo went over to Chun-li, who was throwing a few punches at a practice dummy's head. "Excuse Shampoo, but you Chun-li?" Hearing her name, Chun-li stopped attack the dummy, and turned to face Cologne and Shampoo. The happy look she had on her face turned into one of confusion. "Can I help you?" Cologne lifted her eyebrows when she saw Chun-li's face. "My god, you were right Shampoo!" "Shampoo? What are you talking about?" "Oh, I am being rude. My name is Cologne. This is my great-granddaughter, Shampoo." "Cologne? Shampoo?" "Yes well, our names are actually Khu Long and Xian Pu, but the locals can't pronounce them right." "Oh, you're from China!" Chun-li switched languages. 'Is this better?' 'You are from China as well?' Chun-li nodded. 'Then, do you know your birth place?' Chun-li raised an eyebrow. 'I told you. China.' 'Yes, but, China is a very big place. Do you know which village you come from?' 'No. My Father and I left my birthplace when I was very young.' Cologne became serious. 'Why did your Father not tell you about your birthplace?' 'That is none of your business,' Chun-li replied defensively. 'Why don't you ask him?' 'He has... passed on.' Realization dawned on Cologne face. 'Ahh! So that is why we lost contact with him.' That one statement captured Chun-li's full attention. 'Wait! Did you... know him?' 'That would depend on some things,' Cologne answered. Her eyes narrowed, making her look sly. 'Are you an Amazon?' 'Amazon? What are you talking about?' Cologne smiled. 'I believe that you are from the same village Shampoo and I are from. Joketsuzoku . All women from Joketsuzoku are warriors, which is why we are commonly called Amazons.' 'Joketsuzoku?' Chun-li repeated, 'I don't know what you are talking about! What is this crap about Amazons?? I just want to know if you knew my Father, and if you did, how!' Cologne sighed. 'Give a little, take a little,' she grumbled to herself. Then, she looked Chun-li straight in the eye. "Your father's name was Dohrai Zhang. He was obsessed with finding the man who killed his wife Chun-li. His obsession led him to join Interpol. He busted many smuggling operations and what not while working for Interpol, but his prime objective was still to find the murderer, whom he later on believed to be the man behind Shadowlaw. His daughter, you, he named after his wife. Am I correct?' Chun-li stared at the old woman on a stick in front of her. She was going to nodded, but then stopped herself. 'Only have the things you said could be confirmed. The rest... I don't know. You could be making all that up. I'm not convinced you knew my father.' 'Oh really?' Cologne asked, 'what if I told you that I knew those spikes you're wearing on your wrists belonged to your father, and is made of an indestructible diamond alloy painted over with a steel coating? What if I told you I knew that the uniform you're wearing is modeled after your mother's uniform, and that all of your women ancestors wore their hair up in buns like yours? If I told you that, then would you believe I knew your father?" Chun-li stared at Cologne. 'H-How did you know all that?' She whispered. 'A simple question with two simple answers. One. I knew your parents. Two. You are an Amazon.' 'Amazon?' Chun-li echoed. 'Me? A Chinese amazon?' 'Yes. Although you certainly haven't been living like an Amazon!' Cologne retorted, 'you've lost to females, and yet you let them live. You've lost to males, and yet you are not married yet! Someone has killed your mother, and obviously, you haven't avenged her yet! Didn't your father tell you any of the laws an Amazon must abide by?!' 'Hey, my father didn't even tell me I WAS an amazon!!' Cologne snorted, 'Dohrai was a fool. We must reinstate you into your true amazon woman-hood, now! Come with me, child.' Cologne grabbed Chun-li's arm and started to pull her but Chun-li managed to free herself. 'Hey! Look there, old woman, I-' 'I am NOT an old woman. As an Amazon, you will address me as Elder Cologne.' 'Who said I WANTED to be an Amazon?!' Chun-li cried. The shouting attracted the attention of everyone near them, and they all stopped everything they were doing, and stared at them. Chun-li and Cologne ignored their looks, while Shampoo stood off to one side, red with embarrassment. "What are you trying to say, Child?" Cologne asked, unconsciously switching languages. "Who said I WANTED to be an Amazon?" Chun-li repeated, also changing languages. "Look, my father must have had a good reason not to tell me about being an Amazon. Why should I destroy his plan, and become one now?" Cologne narrowed her eyes, and studied Chun-li like a predator would study it's prey. "So you are saying that you do NOT wish to be an Amazon?" "What good will it do me to BE an Amazon?" Chun-li asked. Cologne smiled. She showed the flyer that Shampoo had shown her yesterday. "This paper contains a brief bio on every fighter in this room. It says here, that YOU work for INTERPOL, just like your father." "Yeah. So?" "Well, like Father like Daughter. I'm willing to bet that, like him, you joined Interpol, not to bust up major criminals, but to find the murderer who killed a love one. In his case, it was the one who killed his wife. In YOUR case, it is the one who killed your father. Am I correct?" Chun-li bristled. She didn't like the way the conversation was going. The old woman was getting the upper hand. ~Damn that flyer! This old woman knows too much about me!~ Cologne took Chun-li's silence as a yes. "Then would you like some information about the people your father was tracking?" "Father kept his information at Interpol. I have access to his files." Cologne smiled again, "Ahh, but you see, it is an Amazon law, that, when an Amazon is killed, her daughter must avenge her. You were too young to, so your father did it for you. Of course, law or no law, he would have killed the murderer with his bare hands anyway, but that is irrelevant. During his tracking, he would send any information he got back to the elders of Joketsuzoku , as it is part of the law, to make sure that the decease was avenged. So you see, I indeed, do have new information for you." Now it was time for Chun-li to narrow her eyes. "What's the catch, old woman?" "The information is only available to Amazons," Cologne answered, smiling. Chun-li narrowed her eyes even further. "I will give you time to decide. I will come for you, after the exhibition, and get your answer then. Come, Shampoo." Cologne turned and walked away a few steps, Shampoo behind her. "Wait, old woma- I mean, please wait, ELDER Cologne," Chun-li cried, stopping Cologne in her tracks. Cologne turned around, "Yes?" "You can have my answer now. I... I wish to be an Amazon." Cologne grinned. She spoke in Chinese. 'Then... by the power granted to me, by my amazon ancestors... Chun-li Zhang, you are hereby... an Amazon once more.' Chun-li blinked. "What? That's it?" "Heavens no," Cologne replied. "That is just the beginning of the initiation. We will complete it after the exhibition, but for the time being, this will do. You are an Amazon." Then, Cologne and Shampoo made their way to the exit, and left. A few moments later, Cammy ran up to Chun-li, a confused look on her face. Chun-li, for her part, had lost the good mood she had been in before meeting Cologne and Shampoo. Now, she was 70% angry, and 30% confused. "Hey, Chun-li!" Cammy said to her, "ya mind telling your mighty confused friend here, what that was all about?" Chun-li looked at Cammy, and the percentages reversed themselves. "I... I'm really not that sure either, Cammy." Cammy looked at Chun-li skeptically, but Chun-li had been telling the truth. ~Good god, just what have I gotten myself into?~ *****************************************************************
