Amy said uncertainly as she headed for the door. "Will you be ready for the test tomorrow?" Lita did her best to shrug, but it wasn't easy when you were lying in a hospital bed with a tube sticking out of your arm. "I doubt it. I didn't study." "Really?" Serena asked, "neither did I!" Serena smiled and gave a wink for Lita. "Don't worry, Lita. You won't be the only one to fail that test. I'll be with you." Just then, a nurse came in. "Miss, the boy's family would like to come in now. So, can you say good bye and part?" She asked politely. Amy nodded. "Yes." She turned to Lita. "Good bye, Lita. I hope you feel better." Serena nodded. "Yeah, Lita. I hope you feel better." She gave her friend's hand a squeeze, before the two of them left. Ken's family came in. They gushed on about Ken and Lita and what happened for a few centuries, before the nurse came in to shoo them away. She turned to Lita and gave an encouraging smile. "We're all very gratefully for your actions, Miss Kino." The nurse said, "Ken's condition has stablized. The doctor will detach you from the tube in an hour or so, and you can leave anytime you want." Lita gave a tight smile, and she was dreadfully pale. "Thanks, nurse." She said. "I guess I'll be going home. I should study for my test tomorrow." ~As if that's gonna happen.~ The nurse smiled again and got out of the room. Lita looked over to Ken and her mind began to wander back to the day that Freddy dumped her... ***************************************************************** It was raining, but it was a beautiful night none the less. The rain resembled little drops of crystal, falling from the clouds. If she squinted, she would see the colours of the rainbow, locked in each drop of water as it completed it's journey from the heavens to the earth. Lita had brought her green umbrella with her, but she didn't think she'd be using it. She pictured herself wrapped around Freddy's arm, sharing his black one. They were under the sign of a resteraunt that they had just eatened at. Lita smiled at herself as she thought back to how the waiter had commented on how cute she and Freddy looked as a couple. "Lita?" Freddy spoke softly, in a tone of voice somewhere between sorrow and fear, "we have to talk." "Freddy, don't you think the rain's pretty?" Lita asked with out turning. Her woman's intuition told her that something bad was going to happen, but she ignored it. "...." said Freddy." It's beautiful." He said softly. "Lita, we have to talk," he said, more insistantly this time. "Okay..." Lita replied with out turning, still gazing out at the rain. She heard Freddy sigh deeply. "Lita, we should break up." There. The five words that Lita feared the most. But Freddy said it so bluntly, that it was hard for Lita to take it seriously. ~No, 'I think we should see other people'," Lita thought. ~Not even a 'Lita it's best that we break up', or `I think your lovely but..'! Even 'Lita, I am gay' was better than just 'Lita, we should break up'!!~ When Lita didn't answer, Freddy repeated himself. "Lita, we should break up." Slowly, the initial shock faded, and Lita turned to face Freddy, but the boy had closed his eyes so that he couldn't see her tears. "I want to see other people," he said. Tears streamed down her face and plopped down on her uniform. "But..." Lita said quietly, "We've been seeing each other for almost half a year now." "I think we're getting too commited." Was the soft reply. Lita's umbrella dropped down into the rain. "No..." She said quietly. Any decent man could see the tears streaming down her face but then again, Freddy wasn't a decent man. "Please!!" Freddy didn't say anything and Lita ran up to him, grabbing his hand that she held for almost half a year. "I thought you loved me?" She sobbed out. "No." Freddy said bluntly. "Never did." "But I love you!!" She cried out. Freddy opened his eyes and his eyes were very cold. "I don't care." He said coldly. He tore his hand out from Lita's and ran into the dark, wet night, leaving a very shocked, and shaking Lita, looking longingly after him. "No!!" Lita shouted running after him a few steps. But deep in her mind, she knew that he was gone, forever. The sky was crying on her, drenching her uniform to her skin, but she hardly noticed. All she did notice was the empty feeling inside her heart. She didn't know how long she stood there, water dripping from her hair, skirt and most importantly, her eyes. She stood there, sobbing. Suddenly, it seemed to get dryer and Lita looked around to see Ken, standing there, with an umbrella over her head. He stood there, with silent sympathy, for his friend, as he had seen what happened, in it's entirety. He had been there when Lita had first gone out with Freddy, warning her about what a jerk Freddy really was, and he was here now, when Freddy had dumped her after he got bored. Had they been younger, he would have laughed at her and said. "I told you so," but right now, he could see that Lita was really hurting bad, and didn't say anything. Lita looked down again, and wept quietly. Suddenly, Ken put an arm around her shoulders and offered her a shoulder to cry on, which she accepted. He did not minding the fact that she was soaking his uniform and gettimg him rather cold. He let her cry on him for a few minutes before he said quietly. "Let's get you back home before you catch a cold." He quickly fetched her fallen and soaked umbrella and brought her back to her apartment. That night, he stayed over to comfort her, despite the fact the tomorrow would be a school day, and if anyone heard about it, Lita and Ken would be the latest item at their school. From then on, Lita always talked about her old boyfriend, but never to Ken's face. * * * Lita looked back at Ken now. He looked horrible with his head bandaged and red with blood. A tube of her own blood lead into his arm and Lita's eyes began to get misty. "I swear I'll hunt that lion down," Lita vowed to Ken. "I'll skin it with my nails and give it to you for a new carpet." That was when a doctor came in and removed the tube from her arm. "Thank you for your cooperation. Ken is coming along quite well now. I think you can go home now." Lita thanked the doctor and he left. She stood up and suddenly, the room started to get tipsy derby. Shaking her head stubbornly, she walked over to Ken's bed and kneeled down so that she was at his eye level. She gave him a kiss on the cheek of love that only a best friend could provide and a silent tear slid down her cheek. "Don't you dare die on me!!" She whispered in his ear, lovingly. She got up, ignored the swirling room and headed for the door. Outside, the sky appropriately started to weap. ** The End **
