Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 1 Rating= 9
The very first Ranma video, telling Ranma's origin and setting up the story for future Ranma adventures...If you're gonna get a Ranma video, this is the one to get.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 2 Rating= 8.5
Continued from volume 1. Very good, very funny.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 3 Rating= 8
More of the same... still funny. You really have to keep getting them to understand the story.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 4 Rating= 9
Yes! Finally the introduction of Ryoga! A very very good Ranma, filled with action.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 5 Rating= 8.5
Continued where vol. 4 left off, and Akane's hair is now a bit shorter... thanks to
Ranma and Ryoga's little fight. This has a bit of the Akane/Ranma relationship going on, as well as
the good old humor.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 6 Rating= 8
This tape introduces Kodachi Kuno, master of martial art gymnastics. And guess what? She's fallen
in love with Ranma. And she's got this little grudge against Akane for being his Fiance. This episode is pretty good, but
Kodachi's laugh will make you hurl.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 7 Rating= ?
One of the only Ranma videos that I haven't seen yet. There will be a full review after I save up for this tape.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 8 Rating= 8.7>
These episodes introduce Shampoo, the Chinese Amizon (whatever that means). This episode is packed full of laughs, but there's one
thing you should know. These two episodes in this tapr should have been released AFTER the Ranma 1/2: Anything goes martial arts: Darling Charlotte. The
problem is that in Japan, when Ranma first began airing, the ratings weren't doing too hot. So the producers decided to air the episodes introducing Shampoo first,
which threw off the continuity just a bit. In this episode there is a flashback to Darling Charlotte but obviously that hasn't happened yet. And Viz Video wanted
to remain faithful to the way Ranma aired in Japan so they didn't bother fixing that little problem either.
Ranma 1/2 T.V. series vol. 9 Rating= ?
One of the only Ranma videos that I haven't seen yet. There will be a full review after I save up for this tape.
Darling Charlotte Rating= 9.7
The first tape of the Anything-goes Martial Arts series is probably one of, if not, the
best Ranma video to date. Introducing Mikado and Asuza, two ice skaters... and they're so funny, you'll laugh
your @$$ off!!
Its Fast or its Free Rating= 7.5
Although its continued from Darling Charlotte, the next tape isn't as funny... and the second episode
on the tape I think is pretty dumb.
Cat-fu Fighting Rating= 7.5
This one reveils Ranma's only weakness and introduces a new character, Sasuke.
We also get to meet Shampoo's great grandmother for the first time in this video too. Also, a strange cat is running around the Tendo household... could it be Shampoo since it kind of looks like her? Naaaaa....
Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire Rating= 7.9
Ranma's stuck in girl form thanks to Shampoo's great-grandmother and has to learn a new technique in order to get her to let him change back. And we also meet the blind-as-a-bat
fool, Mousse... who just happens to be in love with Shampoo. (These love triangles are really gonna start to pour on as Ranma 1/2 continues.)
Cold Competition Rating= ?
One of the only Ranma videos that I haven't seen yet. There will be a full review after I save up for this tape.
The Breaking Point Rating= 8.7
I really liked these two episodes in which Ranma and Ryoga battle it out with the techniques they both learned from Shampoo's
great- grandmother. Fight scenes are pretty cool, too.
Foul Play Rating= 7
Pretty stupid one where Mousse tries to turn Akane into a duck and Ranma's gotta rescue her and yada, yada, yada. Not one of the best one's to get.
The Evil Wakes Rating= 7.3
We finally meet Happosai, the perverted old master of Soun and Genma. I think Happosai is a riot, he loves to steal women's underwear.
The second episode in this tape is about Ranma and Ryoga looking for the Spring of Drowned Man in Japan so they can turn back into boys for good. There were almost
170 episodes of Ranma made in Japan and this episode is episode #34, so you tell me what you think happens.
Good-bye Girl-type Rating= 7.5
This one is continued from the last tape, so if you buy The Evil Wakes, you're gonna have to get this one too.
Tough Cookies Rating= 7.9
Ranma doesn't want to eat Akane's cookies, but he's caught eating Kodachi's. Nothing spectacular happens in these two episodes,
but it's pretty funny, anyway.
Ranma and Juliet Rating= 8.4
This one is pretty funny, and also packs some surprises. Akane is picked to be Juliet in Furnikan High's performance of Romeo and
Juliet. And Ranma wants to be Romeo... and that means a kissing scene.
Ukyo Can Cook Rating= 8.5
Introducing Ukyo, one of my favorite characters in the Ranma 1/2 universe. Too bad she dresses
like a man.
Dim Sum Darling Rating= 8.4
Ranma seems to have this problem, evertime he hears someone sneeze, he grabs them and can't let go. Sounds like rape if
you ask me, but this Ranma video should provide plenty of laughs.
Dharma Chameleon Rating= 9
This is a very funny one. Introducing Tsubasa Kurenai, a lesbian! That's right folks, Tsubasa appears to be in love with none other
than Ukyo... but she likes to dress up for some reason. There's a real reason for her dressing up, and you'll have to watch the video to find out.
Once Upon A Time In Jusenkyo Rating= 8
Nice box art on this video. If you see this one at your local video store, you'll see it has nice art, oh yeah, the video itself is pretty good too.
Seems the Jusenkyo tour guides have rules that you have to follow if you fall into one of the springs and change form. And it turns out that Ranma, Ryoga, Mousse, Shampoo, and
Genma have broken just about every one of them.
Pretty Womanhood Rating= 9.8
Prepare yourself, this one made me fall out of my chair! Ranma gets hit on the head and thinks that he really is a girl. Definately the best Ranma video of the Hard Battle series.
Suddenly Sasuke Rating= 6.5
Only get this one if you have the ultimate goal of owning every Ranma video like me. This one is pretty boring, and the box art really sucks.
Meloncholy Baby Rating= 7.4
Not too much special about this one, average Ranma humor... nothing spectacular. The story in this video is about a love potion, in pill form. Fairly predictable outcomes.
Back To The Happosai Rating= 6.9
Another video to get only if you want to own them all. This one wasn't all that great, it had some pretty funny parts to it though. Basic story is that the gang
travel back in time to when Happosai and Shampoo's great grandmother were young.
Da Doo Ling-Ling, Lung-Lung Rating= 5
Somebody shoot Ling-Ling and Lung-Lung, they have the WORST voices I have ever heard in a dubbed video before!! I HATE them! They're Shampoo's sisters who have come to
see why she hasn't killed the one who defeated her when she lived in China, and the person who defeated her was of course, Ranma. But that doesn't really matter too much because we want Ling-Ling and Lung-Lung to
die and never EVER come back. Please don't let them come back... please....
Smells Like Evil Spirit Rating= 7.8
The two episodes on this video seem very similar for some reason. The first one's about Ranma's girl side seperating from his boy side and the two kind of fall in love with each other. Personally, I think that's kind of sick. The second episode has a guest voice actor, Toby Proctor, who does Tuxedo Mask's voice on the U.S. version of Sailor Moon. In this video, though, Proctor plays Copycat Ken, some new stupid character.
Soap Gets In Your Eyes Rating= 9.1
Now finally we've gotten back to some really funny Ranma episodes. In my personal opinion, the last couple of Ranma's to come out before this one in the Hard Battle series kind of sucked, but this Ranma was extremely funny.
It turns out that Ryoga doesn't turn into P-Chan anymore when he gets splashed with cold water. Ranma doesn't know why, and Ryoga himself doesn't know why, but Ranma is determined to find out. Shampoo knows why cause she's the one who's
responsible for this so-called "cure" to the Jusenkyo curse. Sound confusing yet? Good, then my job here is done.
Mirror, Mirror Rating= 9.5
Talk about ending off the Hard Battle series with a bang! BOTH episodes in this video were the BOMB! In the first one, Ukyo stops dressing as a man for once and starts to dress like a girl in order to attract Ranma's attention.
Well, it turns out that Ukyo is the cutest girl at school now, she's got all the guys looking her way, all except for Ranma (I really think Ranma's gay sometimes). The second episode was kind of continued from a previous episode of Ranma
where they traveled back in time using Happosai's magic mirror. Well, Ranma used it again to go back in time to Jusenkyo, BEFORE he fell in the cursed spring of drowned girl in order to try and stop himself from falling in. If you watch this video, make
sure you wear a diaper, cause you're gonna piss in your pants. On a sad note, however, this is Sarah Strange's last performance of the voice of boy-type Ranma. Next season we have a brand new person doing Ranma's voice... and they'd better do a good job
or ELSE! Lets all bid farewell to Sarah Strange and thank her for her hard, dedicated work as the voice of boy-type Ranma. Lets also curse her for leaving the role!!!
The Headmaster from Hell Rating= 5.8
Well, here's the new season of Ranma 1/2. Boy-type Ranma's got a new voice, since Sarah Strange left the roll last season. Well, what can I say about this new Ranma video? The quality is going down, way down.
Now I don't blame this on Viz Video, they're just releasing the Ranma episodes the way they aired in Japan, but the stories have gotten way too goofy, and the animation, the drawings, and the fighting scenes are nothing to what they were during the first season.
Ranma started out semi-serious, with a huge emphasis on martial arts, and for the most part, it was serious fighting. However, now all the fighting in Ran ma is goofy and I just can't take the characters seriously anymore. As for Ranma's new voice, at first I was like, "What the hell is this???" But now,
I feel that Ranma's new voice, although different from what I'm used to, is closer to the way Ranma sounds in Japanese than Sarah Strange's voice was. So, it may take some getting used to, but for the most part, it's not as bad as I thought it might be. As for the video itself, Headmaster from Hell introduces
the new principal to Furinkan High school, he's a Hawaiian dude with a palm tree on his head. Both episodes on this tape are okay, but again, the quality that this series used to have is gone.
...The Harder They Fall Rating= 6.1
Here's tape two of the new Ranma season, and the quality is pretty much the same as the first tape. The story is a little better, though, and less stupid. Ranma's training to learn a new technique from Shampoo's grandmother, since Ranma became as weak as a baby due to Happosai's strength
reducing moxibustion technique. If you've ever seen the Ranma movie 2, or played the Ranma video games, the technique he does in the game is the same as the technique that he learns here.
The technique is kinda cool, but it's also a little too fake looking. I mean, to do the technique, you lead your opponent in a spiral and use their battle aura against them, thus an explosion occurs and they actually end up
hurting themselves. Again, I like the technique, but I hope as the Ranma series progresses, the techniques get a little more serious.
Immoral Kombat Rating= 5.5
Pretty much more of the same kind of Ranma story. It seems like Ranma's just dragging on. I know that
the Ranma OAV series takes place after the TV series ends, and since the OAV series is VERY good, I'm hoping that the TV series will eventually get better. Anyway, we pick up where the last tape left off. Ranma has learned
the Moxibustion technique and now he's trying to use it on Happosai. But Happosai's found a way to defend against the attack, sort of. The first episode on this tape has some funny parts to it, but it's not as funny
as a majority of the other Ranma tapes are. The second episode is even less funny. Ranma's so-called mom has come back to claim Ranma, but the story is VERY predictable... I found myself just getting plain bored with this episode. So far the Ranma 1/2 Outta Control series hasn't
sparked any of my interests... lets hope they pick up the pace soon...
My Fiance, the Cat Rating= 5.5
I would have to say, if the first episode in this tape wasn't a flashback episode, it would be REALLY good. It was a special Ryoga episode, and he had a lot of flashbacks to previous Ranma episodes. I actaully thought it was good what
happened while Ryoga was talking about the past. He protected this little pink pig from getting eaten by the townsfolk and the pig fell so much in love with him, it was rather cute. It almost brought a tear to my freaking eye. So I did enjoy the first episode despite most of it
being flashbacks, but since it WAS a flashback episode, it's probably one that a lot of people are going to skip. The second episode however was just plain stupid. I tell you, these episodes are getting dumber by the tape. Its about this ghost cat that's looking for a bride and Shampoo
happens to be that bride. Stupid fight scenes, an overly stupid cat voice, and and even more stupid Ranma duke it out in My Fiance the Cat.
Desperately Seeking Shampoo Rating= 9.5
An extremely funny video, packed full of plenty of laughs. I found this one to be extra
funny for some reason, and I'm sure if you have any sense of humor at all, you'll find it to be funny too.
First episode is about how Shampoo begins to hate Ranma after she's loved him for such a long time and Ranma wants to
know why. The second episode is a Ranma Christmas special.
Like Water For Ranma Rating= 9.3
Introducing Miss Hinako, Ranma and Akane's new teacher... too bad she's 12 years old. Well, some of
the time. You see, Miss Hinako can grow into an adult woman by absorbing her opponents battle aura. So when we say
that some kids mature fast, Miss Hinako can enter puberty at the speed of light. This tape's a funny one
too, so be prepared to laugh.
Akane And Her Sisters Rating= 8.8
Pretty nice story in which Soun, Akane's father, has two daughters that he never told her about, and they
want to be the next ones to inherit the Tendo Dojo. For an old guy, that Sound Tendo sure knows how to get around. This tape
features a nice story, and a couple funny parts, nice fighting scenes too.
An Akane To Remember Rating= 10
The best Ranma video you can get. Filled with a wonderful story, and it completely shocks you as you continue to watch,
completely unpredictable. This is the closest you'll ever see Akane and Ranma get, so you MUST get this Ranma video!
One Grew Over The Kuno's Nest Rating= 7.4
You might ge t confused with this video and the first episode of this video and why its presented to us in wide screen. Well, the first episode of
One Grew Over The Kuno's Nest is actually the third Ranma movie. But for some stupid reason, they only made it a half hour long in Japan and since it was so short,
Viz Video decided to just release it as an OAV title in North America. The movie wasn't all that great, and the second episode of the tape which is a real OAV episode, is also
kind of repeditive. Not a bad Ranma video, but it gets kind of boring after a while.
Faster, Kasumi! Kill! Kill! Rating= 8
The first episode of this video was okay. An evil ogre starts possessing people and eventually possesses sweet Kasumi and the sparks fly, bla bla bla. The second episode is much better. A great story, with a touching ending... it does however lack a bit on the humor side, but that's okay in this case, cause the story more than makes up for it. This tape ends the Ranma 1/2 OAV series and remains the final Ranma episode to air in Japan. What's in store after the OAV series of Ranma? Well, since Ranma has already ended in the Manga (comics), the slower-than-a -snail animators in Japan had better get going on making the Ranma animated episode that finally ends the series. But don't worry about never seeing new Ranma videos, cause Viz Video is currently releasing the older episodes of Ranma every other month. Of course, one tends to wonder why they released the entire Ranma series out of order. They are probably too stupid to know what they're doing.
