Takara embarked on this line of figures when the Transformers line
began winding down. There are eight definite separate series in the
Brave series:
- Exkaiser The Brave (1990)
- (Brave of the Sun) Solar Hero Firebird (1991)
- (Brave of Legend) Legendary Hero Da Garn (1992)
- Brave Express Might Gaine (1993)
- Brave Police J-Decker (1994)
- (Golden Brave) Golden Hero Goldoran (1995)
- (Brave Command) Dug-On, The Heroes' Command (1996)
- (King of Braves) Gao Gai Gar, King Of Heroes (1997)
Below will be some pictures of a few figures involved
in the various Brave series.

Dug-Base
White Dragon
Dug-Base
Also known as Dagbase or Dag Base, Dug-Base is a Brave figure from the
1996 Brave series called Dug-On, The Heroes' Command. He was based on
the 1991 Transformers: Battlestars -- The Return of Convoy figure
Grandus.
Both were made by Takara.
Dug-Base shares the basic color scheme as Grandus, with the addition of
blue and more black. Grandus' red weapons were all stripped from the
Dug-Base figure, who only has a white double-barreled rifle as his
main weapon for his fists, which Grandus doesn't have. Dug-Base
also has long grey ramps along his base and station mode's sides
from back to front. Grandus has a peg on a support strut behind his
head for his hookup with
Star Convoy,
but Dug-Base doesn't have this strut. He also doesn't have
Grandus' right-arm panel. Instead of a transforming car, he comes with
five blue Dug-On human figures that can be placed all around him in
all modes. His face is also different from Grandus',
looking as if he has more eyes. :)
Below are pictures of Dug-Base contributed by Evan Johns
(ejdaking@earthlink.net):
- Front of box
(103K, figure, 9/27/00).
It emphasizes his three modes (of which two are shown here) and
the inclusion of five Dug-On figures from the show.
- Back of box
(119K, figure, 9/27/00).
The main picture contains Dug-Base surrounded by other Dug-On
transforming figures.
Included are three Liner Dug-On trains.
Called Wing Liner (flying in the air), Armor Liner (below him on a ramp),
and Turbo Liner (on another ramp to the right) while in train modes,
their robot mode names are Dug-Wing, Dug-Armor, and Dug-Turbo.
The three can combine into a larger robot named Liner Dug-On.
Behind Wing Liner is a jet from the team of four otherwise all-beast members
that forms Shadow Dug-On.
On Dug-Base himself are the five Dug-On human armored figures in blue,
whose appearances from the show are along the top of the box's back.
To the right of Dug-Base is a fire engine coming from Jumbo Dug-On,
a jumbo jet who transforms into a large robot, Fire Dug-On,
with the fire engine as his lower right arm and an ambulance (not shown)
as his lower left arm.
The inset picture of Dug-Base's head shows off his spinning antennae
capability. There are pictures of his two other modes to the left side.
- Top of box
(93K, figure, 9/27/00).
This has Dug-Base's robot head surrounded by the five Dug-On humans in armor.
- Robot mode
(132K, figure, 9/27/00).
The two long large grey ramps don't actually attach to him. He is lying
on them and the back of his white styrofoam packaging.
- Rolling station mode
(52K, figure, 9/27/00).
This is basically Dug-Base lying flat on his front. :)
His white rifle pegs into a hole on his back.
- Another picture of his rolling
station mode
(61K, figure, 9/27/00).
The design on his back is a major change from Grandus'
aircraft carrier-like pattern.
- Base mode
(40K, figure, 9/27/00).
By turning a gear on his back's right side, you can make his internal
elevator platform go up or down carrying a Dug-On figure or similar-sized
objects.
- The five Dug-On figures
(90K, figure, 9/27/00).
They are five of several human figures in power suits/armor given
mecha made from Earth machines to help in the fight against the enemy.
Colored in blue, those five come with Dug-Base.
White Dragon
White Dragon is the Korean version of the Japanese version named Goryu (or
Go Ryu), which means Rolling Dragon. Both are based on the
1990 Transformers: Zone figure
Dai Atlas.
The Dragons were recolored rereleases of Dai Atlas for the
1993 Brave series called Brave Express Might Gaine.
Both were developed by Takara.
Like Dai Atlas, White Dragon can transform into a base, jet, drill tank, and a robot.
His legs contain a motor, powered by a pair of AA batteries under each front
orange leg cover, that can move him forward or backward in jet, drill tank,
or robot modes, or move figures along the rubber treads down a ramp in
his base mode. He comes with a small white transformable car which also
came with Dai Atlas.
White Dragon can combine with Hiryu (or Hi Ryu), a predominantly red
Sonic Bomber recolor and rerelease from the same Transformers: Zone series,
to form a super jet or base (but not a single robot). All of the motorized
capabilities still work in this super jet form, making it one large rolling
vehicle.
Below are pictures of him contributed by Evan Johns
(ejdaking@earthlink.net):
- Front of box
(130K, figure, 9/27/00).
The "4" refers to his four displayed modes. Both the jet and drill tank
modes show yellow arrows for the motorized spinning drill part. The
base mode has a blue arrow for the orange motorized turning double cannon.
Robot, jet, and drill tank modes have blurred outlines demonstrating his
movement from the motorized rubber tank treads.
The "MG" refers to the Brave series' name, Brave Express Might Gaine,
which is misspelled on the box. :)
- Back of box
(136K, figure, 9/27/00).
This is largely a repeat of the features shown on the front of the box.
Added is White Dragon's car and a separately-sold Brave figure, Hiryu,
from the same Brave series. Hiryu is a recolored rerelease of Sonic
Bomber from Transformers: Zone who can merge with Goryu / White Dragon
into a larger jet as shown, or a larger base (not shown).
- White Dragon in robot mode
(244K, figure, 9/27/00).
Below him is the Korean box in which he was packed.
White Dragon is red and some black where Dai Atlas was blue,
has a silver drill instead of a grey drill on the back of his head,
a white face instead of a silver face, and some different stickers.
- Another robot mode picture
(98K, figure, 9/27/00).
In spite of the glare, his red shield (formed from his base mode's parts)
and his companion transforming car's robot mode can be seen.
- Base mode
(125K, figure, 9/27/00).
His box is off to the side in the back.
- A closer look at the base mode
(163K, figure, 9/27/00).
His companion transforming car is on one of the two rubber treads.
In base mode the motorized treads become conveyor belts which can
send the car and any other small objects down the red ramp. The
orange double cannon atop a black stand to the left of the car
is also motorized. When turned on, the cannon spins around as
if spraying gunfire. Part of the box's front is visible behind the base.
- Jet mode
(61K, figure, 9/27/00).
Thanks to his motorized parts, his silver drill can turn as he
simultaneously rolls forward or backward on his rubber treads.
- Drill tank mode
(66K, figure, 9/27/00).
The same motorized functions apply to this mode as to his jet mode.
