Laura San Giacomo was born on November 14, 1962 in West Orange, New Jersey, and was raised in the nearby town of Denville. Laura began acting in high school (Morris Knolls High School in Denville), then went on to attend Carnegie-Mellon University, where she focused on acting, and earned a fine arts degree. Laura made her film debut playing a barmaid who has an affair with her sister's husband in the 1989 independant film "Sex Lies and Videotape." The film earned her the New Generation Award from Los Angeles Film Critics Association. In 1990, Laura portrayed Julia Roberts' wisecracking best friend in the hit movie "Pretty Woman." Laura made her sitcom debut on Just Shoot Me playing Maya Gallo. She is currently living with her son Mason in the San Fernando Valley.
