Have you ever watched a really bad movie? I don't just mean mediocre... I
mean so bad that you just sit there making dumb comments like 'Nice hair',
'That effect sucked' and similar things. If so, Mystery Science Theatre
3000: The Movie is made especially for you.
Not a parody, and not a re-dubbing (like the Australian hit 'Hercules
Returns'), MST3K (as it is known in the US) features one really tacky movie
(in this case, the 60s sci-fi movie 'This Island Earth') and three people -
well, one person and two robots - sitting down making fun of it. Around
this you have a threadbare plot: a mad scientist wants to take over the
world and bring the human race under his domination. His plan is to force
mankind to watch the worst movies ever made, bringing everyone to their
knees. Testing his scheme, he kidnaps an ordinary guy (Michael Nelson) and
makes him watch some of the worst movies ever made.
It sounds stupid, I know... but it is very funny :- especially if you've
seen one bad movie too many. The commentry is hilarious and sci-fi buffs
will get a kick out of some of the lines - especially the many 'Star Trek'
references.
Based on the cult TV show (which has a big following in the US, but has yet
to be seen here), MST3K is great fun.
This is an unauthorised reproduction. I didn't ask anyone, and I'm being really naughty doing it. But at least I'm admitting it.
