ABOUT THE FILM

Based on the acclaimed comic book, video and television series, the series PATLABOR is an exciting combination of Science-Fiction, Police drama and a Political Techno-Thriller. In the Year 1999, Tokyo city has become a megalopis. Tokyo's mobile police have a new weapon in there arsenal, in the constant war against crime. Advanced robots called LABORS, which are huge mechanical machines which use a sophisticated A.I. called the O.S.(Operating System). But the Labors cannot be controlled by themselves, they still need the touch of a human pilot, with their courage and skill they make the machines act like themselves. They use these Labors to combat the criminals of Tokyo who would use this technology to their own Dastardly means.

As the city grows the demand for more Labors also increases, then the BABYLON project is started by SHINOHARA HEAVY INDUSTRIES, which inside it holds the arc a colloseul building standing 500m long and 150m above the sea level. This buildings sole responsibility is the production of Labors.

Everything to be going perfectly when one day a brilliant computer programmer and scientist named E.HOBA committs suicide by jumping from the ARC. This then seems to have a strange affect on the H.O.S.(Hyper Operating System) which he designed.

The film surrounds the anticts of the Special Vehicles Devision of the Mobile Police, Section 2/Division 10. I this team are two of the brightest labor pilots around called Asuma Shinohara and Noa Izumi. One day they were invited over to the Arc to look at the new TYPE-ZERO (last of the 98's and the first to solely use the H.O.S.)labor which was a vast upgrade to their old 98 models. Then things begin to get strange as they are called out, as a Construction labor is on the rampage. But this is no ordinary rogue Labor, it is malfunctioning and there is nothing that the operative can do, but he is then rescued by the 2nd section. Then the plot thickens as Asuma begins to doubt the H.O.S, as he soon discovers that all rogue labor activities so far all have had one thing in common, they all have had the H.O.S installed in them. We then catch up with the rest of the team

Then Asuma and Shige soon discover the true nature behind what is causing the labors to go on the rampage, It is nothing but sound and Ressinance. They calculate what would make all labors go on the rampage and that is a Typhoon, no sooner said than done when a Typhoon of the class which they had calculated is headed for Tokyo. This Typhoon would set off enough Sympathetic vibrations to cause ALL labors to go on the Rampage, it is then up to the 2nd division to save the day and to finnally destroy E.HOBA's master plan. This means that they would have to destroy the Arc. But they would get more than they bargained for when they get there.
