Information and Decision Taking.

Managers have the use of four major resources: money, materials, people, and information. They have, however, only recently begun to take full advantage of the resource "information". They have now started to adopt the concept of Information Resource Management which treats information as a valuable resource that should be managed accordingly. This works by filtering information so that the right information reaches the right decision-maker at the right time in the right time.

DECISION MAKING ENVIRONMENT

Four levels of information activity exist within a company: strategic, tactical, operational, and clerical. The computer-based information systems process data at the clerical level and provide information for managerial decision making at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels.
* The strategic-level managers determine long-term strategies and set corporate objectives and policy consistent with these objectives.
* Tactical-level managers are charged with the responsibility of implementing the objectives and policies set forth at the strategic level of management by specifying specific tasks that need to be accomplished.
* Operational-level managers complete specific tasks as directed by tactical-level managers.
