System Fundaments
The System Life Cycle
Human beings and information systems have similar life cycles. We are born, the information systems are born in the form of an idea. We grow from tiny babies and eventually enter the world on our own, information systems grow form an idea to become ready to use software.
Through adulthood we make contributions to society in our own special ways; once operational, information systems contribute to organizations by processing data and providing information. We grow old and pass on; information systems grow old and pass on. The life cycle for information systems is called, simply the system life cycle. The four stages of this life cycle are illustrated in the figure
