Until five years ago, the name of Kevin Williamson was virtually unknown in the entertaiment industry. But that was then. This is now.
After getting back to life the terror genre almost single-handed, with such box-office hits as "Scream" and "I know what you did last summer", Williamson did something no one expected him to do: he decided to create a TV drama about the friendship of a group of teenagers. That show, of course, was "Dawson's Creek". And despite the fact that everybody thought the show would be a major failure (A horror writer coming up with a teen's series? Nah..., it doesn´t work that way.), "Dawson" generated enough buzz to make it one of the hot new shows of the season, and one of the most talked about,
along with Ally McBeal.
Kevin Williamson's name will be around for some time. In fact, you will have some hard time to get it out of your face. After the success of "Scream 2", "I still know what you did last summer", the sequel to his other horror hit, premiered this fall. He will make his directing debut with the suspense movie "Killing Mrs. Tingle", which he also wrote.
Released on December 25th, "The Faculty", yet another horror film written by Williamson, was directed by Robert Rodriguez. This year he will be the Executive Producer of "Wasteland", a prime-time drama for ABC. He will produce the romantic comedy "Her leading man", and between that all, he will continue
his duties as producer and creator of "Dawson".
A great deal of Williamson's work is based on his real life experiences. When a high school English teacher told him that he would never succeed as writer, he took the matter into his own hands and wrote his first screenplay: "Killing Mrs Tingle". The killer of "Summer" is based on his fisherman father. And even the opening sequence of "Scream", where Drew Barrymore has to deal with a lot of pressure via cellular phone, is a recollection of a night in his house when he heard a noise in the kitchen and realized a window was open, just after he had closed it.
