A Virtual Visit Chez Xorys - Page 1

Welcome! Thanks for dropping by! I'm not quite sure how to explain the point of this exercise. I guess what made me put it together was a combination of two things:

  1. The whole thing about 'webcams' and the idea of sort of visiting people over the web.
  2. The fact that whenever Xenites get together, one thing they always seem to want to do is see each others' Xena stuff.

Well... I certainly have no intention of putting up a live cam - I don't have the appropriate resources, and anyhow, it would be very boring. But I did like the idea of letting anyone who cares to drop in see where I live and work and check out some of my Xena stuff. So... initially I went the very lo-tech route. I borrowed my niece's Polaroid camera, and then scanned the results! And I got quite a few nice notes from people who dropped by. Then, never one to leave well alone, I redid the whole thing, taking (more or less) proper photographs with a real camera (a 35mm SLR - I haven't gone digital yet... very nice, but too expensive).

And that's basically what you have here. A bunch of pictures of my dolls, my posters, my computer, etc... accompanied by my vague commentary.

I'm afraid I don't even have ICQ or anything. I figure if I start chatting to all the people I know as soon as I sign on the web, that'll be it - I'll never get anything done again! So... I still do things the old fashioned way, by email. But I'd be quite happy if you'd like to write to me about anything you see here. Please don't email me pics without asking first though - I get a lot of mail, and attachments cause me headaches.

So anyway, scroll down, and have a look at my place, and my stuff...

So, let's start off where I spend most of my time anyway - with the computer. This is my work environment, as well as a large part of my social life, since I work from home, doing computer stuff. The big B&W picture to the right and all the smaller ones below are from old Hindi films... another passion of mine. Then, moving to the left, you can see the Creation calendar, displaying a fiery pic of Gab from A Good Day. Next to that are Callisto dollie and Xena dollie on 'Argo' (close ups and more detail on these below). Above and to the left of them are pics from Sins Of The Past and A Day In The Life - two of my favourite eps. I just *love* that pic of Xena pulling Gab up onto Argo behind her! Below, standing on top of the computer monitor itself, you can see Xena and Gabrielle dollies (again, close-ups below). At the bottom right there's a stack of pics and mags awaiting the attention of the scanner, which is just behind them.

Here's more of a close-up of the comp. You can see Xena and Gab on top of the monitor better now. Those are from the first Toybiz series of 6" figures. The TV behind the monitor isn't for watching programs - it's not hooked up to cable. I use it as a display when I'm doing image captures from video. At the top left you can see a couple more pics of Gab - a nice one of her smiling and leaning on her staff, and one of her dressed up as Xena from A Good Day (another of my all-time favourite eps - and Gab just looks *so* cute like that). Right at the left is a bit of a picture I painted during the period when I was establishing definitely that I had no real talent with a brush.

And this is another shot showing basically what I see if I look up over the top of my computer monitor. On top of the TV are Callisto and Xena, the other two figures from the first Toybiz 6" series. Xena is mounted on a Grand Champions Palamino Saddlebred Mare, which was the closest approximation I could find anywhere to Argo. It's a nice horse, and she sits on it pretty well... of course the saddle isn't exactly the proper Xena version (although I did buy a Grand Champions Western-style saddle to replace the English-style saddle the horse came with... can't have Xena without a saddle-horn <g>).

And this just gives you a better view of my closest companions... Xena and Gab standing on top of the monitor. And they do stand there all the time, without support. Although I must admit that occasionally, if I get too enthusiastic in my typing, one or other of them sometimes takes a dive... Again you can see some pics from old Hindi films on the right.
