Steve McCarty's Virtual Flat

About me
Steve McCarty was born in Boston and holds an M.A. from the University of Hawaii where he specialized in Japan. He is a full Professor at Kagawa Junior College in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. Steve researches adult Japanese-English bilingualism and East-West biculturalism. He and his Japanese wife are raising two young sons bilingually. Steve is on the staff of several electronic journals and the annual Teaching in the Community Colleges On-Line Conference. He led a colloquium on Cross-Cultural Communication/Japan at the 1996 University of Hong Kong Knowledge and Discourse Conference. His hobbies are diary-writing, baseball, and surfing either waves or educational Websites. Besides his initials being SAM, Steve aspires to the versatility of a Sam Sheppard, being as it were on both sides of the media lens. He has an abiding interest in journalism and would like to develop the role of foreign correspondent in the Internet Age. Steve founded the East-West Discourse List (EWD-L), a forum for discussions on contemporary Asia, the Pacific Rim, and East-West biculturalism.
