Helpless

Synopsis:

Buffy has to endure a rite of passage. On Buffy's eighteenth birthday she has to take a test in which Giles injects her with adrenial suppressors and muscle relaxants. Then a strong vampire is released to fight her in her weakened state. Giles considers it barbaric, but none the less he must obey. Giles' relationship is so much of a father-daughter relationship that he tells her the truth. Buffy of course very angry goes home. Only to discover that the vampire, Kralik has escaped and taken her mother. She goes back to Kralik's lair, fights kralik and fails. He needs to take his pills so she switches his water with holy water and he drinks it. Buffy has defeated him and Giles' disobeys orders to not go in to stop the test. The Council fires Giles' for his fatherly behavior.

Great Quotes:

Giles Quote: "It's a test, Buffy. It's given to the Slayer once she...uh, well, if she reaches her eighteenth birthday. The Slayer is disabled and then entrapped with a vampire foe whom she must defeat in order to pass the test. The vampire you were to face... has escaped. His name is Zackary Kralik. As a mortal, he murdered and tortured more than a dozen women before he was committed to an asylum for the criminally insane."

Buffy Quote: "You bastard. All this time, you saw what it was doing to me. All this time, and you didn't say a word!"

Another Buffy Quote: "You know, nothing's really gonna change. The important thing is that I kept up my special birthday tradition of gut-wrenching misery and horror."

Editorial:

A surprising turn. The Watcher's council fired Giles for saving Buffy's life. While it is suggested that he won't be going anywhere and that he will basically act as her watcher. I think Quintin needs to get out of town quickly before Buffy regains her strength and gives him a good ass kicking.
