Little girls playing outside at jump rope. One little girl, Becky Thomas, falls, unable to breath. Her mother is approached by a grass-roots lawyer, (Brazini, Frazini, Cazini? I couldn't catch it correctly) who is trying to sue the Green Layer International company for distributing a dangerous fertilizer that causes serious respritory illness in young children. He is suing on behalf of all the children who have turned up ill. He believes that the children could be treated successfully if Green Layer would give up their complicated formula for the fertilizer. To analyze the formula for the answer would take too long, and Becky could die before it was accomplished. Enter the Green Layer lawyer - Michael Dearborn - known as "The Undertaker" because he likes to "Bury them alive". He consults with his client, Jack Humphrey, and a Green Layer scientist, Dr. Lorraine Simmons. Dr. Simmons is aware of the danger of the fertlizer and has documented it in her report. Mike and Jack want the truth covered and protected at all costs. Simmons is coerced into keeping quiet by sending her away and threatening her with loss of her pension and action to take her house. She disappears. Her technician, Elway, decided to side with Jack and Dearborn. Our grass roots lawyer is over his head against Dearborn. He dresses funny, is not as articulate, and nowhere near as vicious as Dearborn. KC attends court and hates what she's seeing, so of course, she goes to Mr. Chapel. Chapel visits Becky and tells her he will try to help make her well, then he goes after Dearborn's team. First - Elway. Chapel kidnaps Elway and keeps him on ice, turning his attention to Mike Dearborn. He calls Dearborn on the phone and asks him to settle the lawsuit. Mike refuses. Chapel asks him once again and says "and I'll use the magic word. Please." Another refusal. Chapel tells him, "Later on, I just want you to remember that I asked you twice, and I said please." You know it's coming. Chapel catches Mike in the parking garage and threatens him. Deerborn sends his guys, under the direction of Nathan Cross, to find Chapel and Elway, who is needed to testify in court. Chapel has made it look like Elway has fled to Tibet. KC goes to Dearborn, pretending to be afraid of this Chapel person, who destroyed her lawyer career. She pretends to have information on him, which she makes Dearborn pay for. She grabs the money, leaves him with a briefcase full of nothing and runs away. Dearborn sends Cross after her and Cross is the next kidnap victim. Now it looks like he has gone off to South America. Dearborn is furious - AND scared of Chapel. He goes to court and complains that Brazini (we'll us that, since I don't know the real name) is having someone harrass Mike. The current judge is totally sympathetic with Dearborn and won't give any consideration to Brazini, who is trying to get a continuance so he can find Dr. Simmons. Chapel takes a big box of raw meat out to where he is keeping Elway and Cross - in separate rooms. He threatens Cross and tells him that Elway is in the next room. Then he goes into Elway and brandishes a chain saw. He lets Elway scream and carry on while the chainsaw is running, knowing that Cross is hearing everything. Then, he tapes Elway's mouth shut and proceeds to tear into the box of meat with the chainsaw, splattering himself and the saw with blood. When he goes back to see Cross, Cross is ready to talk about ANYTHING. He tells Chapel that Dr. Simmons is in Guatamala. KC goes after her. Chapel goes to see Judge Clyde to get The Favor. Judge Clyde appoints a new judge, Washington, to oversee the Green Layer lawsuit. Washington is not sympathetic to Green Layer in the slightest, has nothing but disdain for the flashy Dearborn. He refuses to give Dearborn time to recover his witness, Elway. "Get on with it!" and he doesn't believe that Brazini is having Dearborn harrassed. Brazini is informed that he has won some contest (that he didn't know he entered) and is now the proud owner of a complete new wardrobe. THEN, Chapel kidnaps Dearborn and buries him up to his neck in the dirt. "Burying him alive", as it were. He puts a road cone over his head . It's time for court and Mike is just digging himself out of the dirt. He goes to court over an hour late and covered in dirt, angering the new judge even more. Brazini is in his new clothes and all confident now, and ready to go. In court, Dearborn calls Jack Humphreys, who has developed the fertilizer and shows no signs of medical problems - until he uses a lozenge that has been treated with pepper spray by our Mr. Chapel. Jack coughs uncontrollably during his testimony that he has no health problems from working with the fertilizer. Bad Show for the Jury. KC has a litle trouble with Dr. Simmons, who is afraid for her life. KC convinces her that her financial problems have all been taken care of by a "benefactor" and that it's safe to come back and testify against Green Layer, so - she does. It is the death knoll for Green Layer International. They lose big time, and Dearborn is disbarred. Little Becky is saved in time. Not the most exciting episode, for my money, but good. I assume we have at least one more new story left before they dump the show altogether. |
