Episode 4 - "BITTER END"
Air Date - 10/15/98

This, unfortunately was not my favorite episode. Too esoteric. But, this is what happened as far as I can tell:

Pam Broder witnesses a murder in a parking garage. Sees the murderer (Ted Hicks) close up and he goes to jail for manslaughter. He thinks of her the whole time and stalks her from prison. Soon, he is out. KC and Chapel are on this for some reason that wholly escaped me. No one phones him and asks him. He starts dogging Broder's heels and watching her back. Soon, Hicks strikes and Chapel is there . Hicks leaves a note for on Broder's bathroom mirror for CHAPEL, so he knows Chapel is watching him. Chapel introduces himself to Ms Broder. I'm totally in the dark by now, wondering how we got to all this. I even had it on the VCR so I could back up and replay things to see what I had missed.

ANYWAY.......Chapel goes to this really funny, old retired police detective, Chuck Bidolli, and calls in The Favor. Sends Chuck with KC to stake out Hicks. Hicks has his cop friend arrange for Pam's brother, Steve to be arrested for car theft, thereby keeping him from protecting his sister. Chapel sends a gangsta guy named Little Evil into the jail to watch after Steven and take out Hicks' inside help, Gulch. ( I'm really lost by now, sorry).

KC and Chuck and Pam all get taken prisoner by Hicks, who has taken Chuck's old partner hostage. Chapel arrives and they struggle. Hicks suddenly stabs Chuck and escapes. Chapel assures Chuck, "..you won't die. I'm serious." and Chuck lives. But I digress…..Pam gets word that her brother is getting out of jail and she, KC, and Chapel go to get the brother. KC goes into the station to get Steve, leaving Pam all alone with Chapel. For unknown reasons, (this attraction is completely out of the blue) they are about to kiss when KC screams that the brother is stabbed. Dead, too. Pam freaks and sends Chapel away from her and takes bodyguards instead. Chapel sticks close by, however and is there when Hicks pulls a real fast one and kidnaps Pam. He locks them both in the parking garage where the original murder was witnessed. Chapel is locked out. Hicks wants to goad Pam into killing him, but Chapel gets in at the last minute and Hicks goes back to jail. Pam tries to get Chapel to stay with her (this is so disgusting, really), but of course, he's outta there. "Goodbye, we're even; and I'm out of your life forever." Later, Hicks gets a box of bitter Mexican chocolates in jail; are they from Chapel...or Pam.

I didn't care for this episode. It was like someone left big chunks of the story out. Chapel had no decent lines or anything fun to do at all. The romance angle was totally unmoving. Saw no reason for it AT all. I'll watch it again over the weekend and see if it was just me. Will amend my report if I see anything any differently the second time around. All the actors were good, but the story was too vague and meaningless. Mike obviously had no fun at all with this one and neither did I.
