KC's college friend, Ronni, is having a hard time, wondering if she's pregnant. When she finds she is, she leaves a long message on KC's answering machine explaining that the father is her boss, Senator Tom Haworth. She then confronts him on a drive through the country near the Haworth estate. He is a total bum and she throws him out of the car and drives right into an accident. Upside down and trapped, she hangs there whilst the Senator runs home to his Mom. She insists on covering up the incident and sends henchman, Ed, to dispose of Ronni. Ed lights the spilled gasoline at the wreck and burns Ronni up in the car. They report the accident as if Ronni was alone when it occurred. KC gets Ronni's message and is immediately suspicious of the Senator. She is quite broken up by her friend's death and Chapel decides it's time to get the Senator. KC goes to work as a volunteer for Senator Tom's campaign as "Sally". Later, the Senator gets a blackmail note about Ronni and the pregnancy and the wreck. He is told to wait at Mom's for a call. In the meantime, Chapel calls The Favor in from an old, retired governor, Luke McElroy (previously, saved from a scandalous situation by Our Hero). The Governor calls the Senator's Mom and explains that their situation with KC is known and he's sending a specialist to help them with the cover-up. He shows up with evidence of their involvement with Ronni and the whole car crash thing. KC calls the house using a voice synthesizer and plays the answering machine message to the Haworths. They prepare to pay 2 million in blackmail to get the tapes. NOW .............. One of Senator Tom's duties is to review and okay military expenses for the State. He is routinely locked up in a private room with the Top Secret documents, guards posted outside. Chapel and KC plant cameras in the room, hooked up to Chapel's computer, and then KC goes to wait for the Senator to come to the room to review the documents. The guards wait outside, not knowing that KC is inside. She "stumbles" on to the Senator, and puts some moves on him. He opens up the secret documents so he can impress her with them, and Chapel gets good pictures. KC tips off the guards that she is in the room and Senator Tom is caught with her where she shouldn't be. He still has blackmail problems, too, so they prepare to pay the kidnapper with "Cappia", Chapel's alias. The old Governor puts Chapel on to a military attache/secret-document buyer named Myat and Chapel tempts Myat with his pictures of the Top Secret documents. Myat agrees to buy the secrets. They arrange for an exchange. When Tom and Mom (who are revealed as lovers - *gasp and moan!*) get the 2 million together, they go to exchange it for the incriminating tapes from Ronni's answering machine. "Cappia" exchanges briefcases so that Senator Tom is not carrying the money, now; he's carrying the Top Secret stuff. Meanwhile, the old Governor McElroy has alerted the FBI that national secrets are being sold and the FBI is there watching Tom exchange briefcases with Myat. When they're all busted, Tom has 2 million dollars in the case he has just gotten from Myat, and Myat's case contains the TS documents. Still with me? Tom is busted, as is Ed, the henchman. Mom is all alone. They can't tell the REAL reason they were trading briefcases with Myat. This was a real good episode, too. I liked it a lot. KC's involvement was wonderful, because Kathleen York is wonderful. It's good to see her do her stuff. Mr. Chapel was witty and beautiful, just like I like. He is suitably tender and supportive when KC finally lets her tears flow for her lost friend. He goes to see Mom Haworth. She wants to know why he took her son. He tells her he's been bugging the house for some time, and knows that she is, "...not exactly Mother of The Year." Yeah! Good One! |
