Scott Holmes (Tom Hughes)
As attorney Tom Hughes on As the World Turns, Scott Holmes portrays a popular character for which he won a Best Actor award from Soap Opera Update magazine in 1993 and 1997, and gained a Best Supporting Actor nomination in 1997 and 1999 from Soap Opera Digest. Tom and his wife Margo recently reconciled after a long separation.
Scott, who was born in West Grove, PA on May 30 and raised in Oxford, PA, is an accomplished Broadway performer. His roles include Johnnie Casino/Teen Angel in Grease; Che Guevara in Evita (a part which he initially played for two years with the original Los Angeles company); and Sam Dallas in Tommy Tune's The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public. His additional Broadway credits include The Rink (starring Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera); Jerome Kern Goes to Hollywood; Got Tu Go Disco; and Michael Bennett's Scandal, which was canceled before its debut as a result of Bennett's death. Off-Broadway, Holmes performed in the Hal Prince production of Diamonds.
Scott's theater career began after his college graduation, when he was cast as the lead in a touring production of Godspell. He later earned his Equity card at the Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh doing productions such as Oklahoma with Margaret Hamilton, The New Moon, Shenandoah, The Most Happy Fella, George M, and Damn Yankees. After moving to New York, Holmes played in Broadway tours of Shenandoah and The Robber Bridegroom with his friend John Goodman.
In addition to As the World Turns, which he joined in the summer of 1987, Scott played the part of Dave Greenberg on the daytime drama Ryan's Hope.
He has performed his critically acclaimed nightclub act, Alone for the First Time, in numerous locations such as The Russian Tea Room in Manhattan, Catskills resorts, and Atlantic City's Trump Plaza. He can be heard in CDs from several of the Broadway shows in which he has performed, as well as on RCA's A Soap Opera Christmas CD.
In addition to music, Scott is a sports enthusiast and teaches spinning classes at a local gym. He is also a certified diver and water safety instructor. He met his wife, Pamela, at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in music and drama. They live in a farmhouse, circa 1817, in New York State with their son, Taylor Nicholas (b. 8/18/87).
