Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper)
Frank Dicopoulos marked his 10th anniversary as GUIDING LIGHT's Frank Cooper in September 1997.
Frank was so enthusiastic when his character joined the police force that he donned a bulletproof vest and tagged along with some real-life New York men in blue in their squad car to get a cop's perspective.
Frank majored in psychology and minored in art and drama at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Active in football, basketball, and lacrosse, he also set a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III track record in high hurdles. For a time, he thought of becoming an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. To keep his grade point average up, he admits, he enrolled in drama courses – and became hooked.
Following college graduation, Frank moved to Texas. After managing a tire store in Houston and working as an auto mechanic, he began posing for print photography ads and doing television commercials. In a nationwide talent search in Dallas, he became one of four finalists out of 770 candidates to screen-test for the Larry Wilcox replacement role on the television series Chips.
Although he did not get the job, he did get a small film part and had the lead in an MTV video documentary called Wild Rides, narrated by Matt Dillon. He also hosted On the Move for ESPN and the Miss Teenage America Pageant in Dallas.
Frank moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and appeared in numerous primetime series including The Tracey Ullman Show, Silver Spoons, O’Hara, Hotel, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest, as well as the soap operas THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Capitol and General Hospital. He also acted in several movies before joining GL.
The actor and his wife, actress/writer Teja Anderson, have two children. He enjoys running, weight training, playing basketball, tennis and golf, as well as collecting art, drawing, and music. He is also a national spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.
Frank was born in Akron, Ohio, and is the oldest of three children of Catherine and Harry. His birthday is January 3.
