Maureen  Garrett (Holly  Reade)
Maureen Garrett, a three-time Daytime Emmy award nominee, gives new meaning to the term "renaissance woman."
She has traveled throughout Europe and the United States with her family (her father was in the US Army). She has worked as an editor of an American newspaper in Germany; was a freelance photographer; an art gallery owner; a stage manager; a Head-Start teacher in Philadelphia; and assistant director of the Philadelphia International Film Festival.
In 1976, after only three months in New York City, she was cast as Holly in Guiding Light, which she played until 1981. Afterwards, Maureen appeared on television as E.J. Ryan on Ryan's Hope and in numerous commercials. She rejoined Guiding Light in 1985.
Maureen has worked extensively in regional theatre, including Les Liasions Dangereuses at Virginia Stage. She appeared in As You Like It and Quartermaine's Terms at the Walnut Street Theatre (Philadelphia), and has crossed the country to work with American playwrights on new plays.
These include Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B. by J.P. Donleavy; Mrs. California by Doris Baisley; Last Looks by Grace McKeaney; and Self Defense by Joe Cacaci. Prior to 1981, she appeared in numerous repertory and stock productions, including Hedda Gabler, The Birthday Party, The Glass Menagerie, and The Royal Family.
Maureen studied at Germany’s Universitat Munchen, Temple and Villanova Universities. In New York City, she studied acting with Michael Howard and Uta Hagen.
In addition, she has assisted on several documentary films, including the MTV/HBO production Smart Sex, and narrated the Emmy award-winning documentary about schizophrenia, Through Madness.
When not at the studio, the actress, who speaks German and French, enjoys swimming and yoga. She was born on August 18 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
