Finally, it's here--an entire site dedicated to one of the most fun and uplifting films of eighties, 1985's long-overlooked dance classic, Girls Just Want To Have Fun.
If you haven't seen GJWTHF (Girls Just Want To Have Fun), imagine Dirty Dancing set in the eighties, but a lot more fun--and for a family audience. (In fact, GJWTHF was created first, making Dirty Dancing the copycat!) You can also check out the Plot Synopsis page for more details of the exact storyline. In addition to its clean-fun appeal, GJWTHF is a great representative of the 80's! It has the same feel-good qualities that music of the 80's did; what other music celebrates the simple pleasures of life with such an optimistic smile? "Footloose" encourages us to just cut loose. "Flashdance" tells us our dreams can come true--just "take your passion and make it happen." And GJWTHF celebrates the carefree spirit of just being girls (or boys, for that matter), going after what we want, and believing that those dreams are attainable. Definitely give it a try if you liked Flashdance, Footloose, Fame, or Dirty Dancing. These movies even have similar themes: a challenging situation where the protagonists triumph in the end, amidst great music and--of course--dancing!
