Story:
In 1956, the visionary architect Frank Lloyd Wright sketched out plans for The Illinois (right), a mile-high skyscraper that would accommodate 100,000 people, parking for 15,000 cars and enough office space to house the entire state government. Sheathed in aluminum and stainless steel, Wright's 528-story edifice could have been built, he believed, with available technology. But a significant barrier stood in the way: the required elevators would have taken up too much space.
It has been rumored that ILM added The Illinois into Episode One on Couscant. I have been looking for this one for quite a while and I believe my search is finally over! Upon my discovery, my appartment started shaking and small items started falling off of the counters. I took it as a bad sign. Fortunately, it was just a 7.0 earthquake and the ILM Gods weren't going to kill me today. (j/k)
In my search, I kept referring to the fantastic sketch that Frank Lloyd Wright did of his building (right). I analyzed the frames of Coruscant trying to find it but it wasn't until I sat back and looked at the more obvious that I found the building:
Palpatine LIVES in The Illinois!
If you take a look at Lloyd's sketch at the right, you can see a small building on the left of The Illinois. Now take a look at the screen capture at the top: it appears that the same addition is there! (red arrow). The top of the building is never shown, and there is more design in the base of the building - but I believe this is indeed the ILM-version of The Illinois and what it would look like if it was built on Coruscant. Is it ironic that Lloyd believed that there would be "enough office space to house the entire state government?" or do you believe that this is why ILM decided to chose this building? Possibly all senators have an apartment here?
What do you think? Feel free to discuss it on my messageboard.
