We then meet Kagero. A food taster for the emperor of her clan. A food taster? She has immunity to all poisons, however, because of this immunity she herself is poison filled. She can not kiss another person without killing them, truelly sad, because she is in love or has some affection for the leader of a ninja team.
Anyway, an entire town dies due to an epidemic, or so somebody would want people to believe. The ninja team of Kagero's clan and herself go to investigate, when they are ambushed. Every one dies except for Kagero, she watches the one she somewhat liked have his arms ripped off, and we assume dies.
Kagero is captured while trying to escape and then is raped (somewhat) by a man, involved in the ambush, who's skin can become stone. The ultimate defense basically. Jubei; however is there asking for directions when he does a noble thing by helping Kagero escape. How, he through a knife into the guys eye, which pissed him off. When he went to pursue he was stopped by the other person in the ambush. Kagero and Jubei part ways.
While Jubei goes to the next town, the stone guy comes in and starts kicking the crap out of Jubei. Jubei kills the beast only because of Kagero's poison. After the battle an old man warns Jubei that he has killed one of eight devils and now they would surely hunt him down. And so forth and so on...
