Before Watching :
TaxiTalk with another student about the following possible endings :

What will happen if the film ends...

  • ...in a typical Hollywood way?
  • ...in a sad way?
  • ...surprisingly, with a twist?
  • ...melodramatically?
  • ...comically?
  • ...realistically?

Why do you think most Hollywood films have happy endings?

While Watching :

The End

-A-

  1. Why does Holly still want to go to Brazil?
  2. What does she say the government want with her?
  3. What does Holly want Paul to do?

- B -

Spot the mistakes in Paul's monologue:

"You know what's wrong with you? Miss Golightly? You're a rat. You've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your neck and say OK, Life's a fact. People do fall in love. People do like each other. Because that's the only chance people have for real happiness. You call yourself a wild spirit, a free thing and you're terrified that somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. You're already in that cage - you built it yourself. And it's not bound in the West by Tulip, Texas, or in the East by Somaliland. It's wherever you are. Because no matter where you go, you just end up running into yourself. Here - I've been carrying this ring around for weeks...I don't want it an longer."

After Watching :

Compare the end of the film, with the book - What differences are there, and which do you think is the better ending ? Why ?

The cat was not at the corner where he'd been left. There was no one, nothing on the street except an urinating drunk. Holly darted up and down the block, chanting 'You. Cat. Where are you? Here, cat.' The limousine had followed us. At the door, she hesitated; she looked past me, and she shuddered, she had to grip my arm to stand up : 'Oh Jesus God. We did belong to each other. He was mine.' Then I made a promise, I said I'd come back and find her cat. 'I'll take care of him, too. I promise.'

In the Spring, a postcard came : it was scribbled in pencil, and signed with a lipstick kiss : 'Brazil was beastly, but Buenos Aires the best. Not Tiffany's, but almost. Am joined at the hip with divine señor. Love? Think so. Will let you know address when I know it myself.' But the address...was never sent...
