What's new?

October 7, 2001

I gather there's a push on Columbia House to release FK on DVD. If that's the case, I'm putting the page back up with an updated list, and will be forwarding my list to them this week. Thanks for your patience.

OK, lets try this again! I swear, the page was working the other day, but apparently people have had trouble signing the petition. Somehow the recipient email got stripped out. In any case, I think I've fixed that now (I will try again when I get into work). Thanks to the person who emailed me with the problem.

Fortunecity once again changed the links for the forms (I wondered why the petition mail had tappered off so much). Anyway, that's back working again, and I'm trying to fix the guestbook as well. I know people on FORKNI think I've dropped off the face of the earth (which, I suppose, is sort of true). But I do have quite a bit of data collected, and plan to do an update on the site shortly. If you've tried to sign the petition recently and couldn't, or you know someone who did, please pass this info on to them. Thanks!

Not a huge update. I just removed the links for the guestbook since it doesn't seem to be working properly anymore. Look for another update when my summer course is finished.

I apologize for taking so long to update this page. I think I caught all the duplicate entries on the most recent update, but if you spot one, please let me know--I'd appreciate it. Also, if you signed and your name doesn't appear, drop me a note and I'll check it out.

The signature page is back up.

December 5, 1999

I finally got around to updating the petition list, and the good news is that we're well past the 1000 signature mark! Woo hoo! Over the next few weeks, I'll work on tabulating the results. In the meantime, there's a link to a graph showing format preferences on the petition list page. Also, you might notice that I put the list of names in descending order, with the most recent names on top. This is just to make things easier for people when they check to see if their name is on the list.

In DVD news, Ally McBeal joins the ranks of TV series soon to be released on DVD.

Haven't updated the list in a while, but we're well over the 1000 mark now.

In other news, check out this link for information about the release of the first season of The X Files on DVD. Looks like a great package. Hopefully we'll someday see something similar for FK.

Well, updates to the petition page have been a little scarce this month, mainly because I have had a computer crash at home. As a result I do not have internet access at home. I've been saving the esignatures, and will try to update the page this evening, with more to come later this week or early next.

Thank you for your patience.

In other news, there are reports of a few other TV series making their way to DVD, most noteably The Wonder Years, which ran on ABC for a number of years. Also, a TV mini-series called Stephen King's The Stand was released last week. The Stand is noteable because it is the first wide-release of DVD-18, which uses two layers on two sides of the disk to hold the 6-hour + miniseries as well as several extras including a commentary track. If this technology were used for FK, they could release the entire series on 12 disks. However, it is important to note that one of the reasons DVD-18 was delayed is that an inexpensive and reliable way of mass producing them was only recently developed. Despite this, DVD-18s are still expensive to produce.

We've passed the 800 mark! Look for a slight re-arrangement of the petition info within the next few weeks, since I'll have a little time to give these pages some serious attention.

In other news, there's word that "Dark Shadows" may be coming to DVD. I heard that selected episodes would be coming out, but I'll do a little more checking to confirm this. Also, I read recently that Cartoon Network will be releasing "Dexter's Laboratory" on DVD (ah, if only they'd release "The PowerPuff Girls"...). Anyway, we're beginning to hear about more and more TV series being released on DVD (there are rumblings that both "Buffy" and "The X-Files" will find their way onto DVD shortly).

Well, the big news of the update is that we passed the 500th eSignature over the last couple of days. I have to admit I'm impressed; I wasn't expecting to get 250 signatures, much less 500.

My thanks to everyone who has supported this page! Please keep spreading the word; lets shoot for 1000 signatures.

June, 1999

I found this on one of the DVD newsgroups today:

According to the latest edition of Universe Today's Headline News (published by the Fan Club). . .

"It was reported recently that Warner Home Video plans to issue Babylon 5 on DVD in the series' organic 'aspect ratio' (each episode of B5 and Crusade is filmed in a special widescreen ration which will ultimately accomodate their transition to HDTV broadcasting.)"

So, Babylon 5 fans are getting their show on DVD, and it's already been released on VHS and laserdisk. They're a bigger fandom than we are, but B5 was a syndicated show, like Forever Knight. It's something to think about.
