Physical Requirements I realize that most girls aren't super tall and stick thin. These days most anything goes. Even though agencies do set certain height requirements not all of them live by it. Examples of models that do not fit these height requirements- Jamie Rishar (Company) 5’5” Kate Moss (Women) 5’7” Charlotte Dodds (Next) 5’6” Laetitia Casta (Elite) 5’7” Laura Cisneros (NY Models) 5’7” As you've probably already noticed, all of these girls are from different agencies. Which means that it is not just one agency trying to be different or trendy. These girls have a special look about them that an agent just couldn't pass up. Who knows maybe that could be you. I do want to make you aware of the physical requirements. This is only to let some of you know that you might have a rough road ahead and to prepare you for it.
We found that most agents prefer to see snapshots not “professional” pictures. Wear no make up in these pictures, agents want to see what you really look like. Remember, these agents are used to seeing the best photography in the world. Small town “professional photography” is not going to impress them. Along with the snapshots include your height, age, size, hair color, eye color and phone number. Be honest about your measurements! Do not follow up with an agent after sending your pictures if they are interested they will call you. Most agents are very busy and more than likely will not take time out to look for your pictures. Agents will contact you if they are interested. At that time, more pictures will be requested or a face to face interview.
Open Calls:
Many agencies hold “open calls”. This is a specific time set aside to meet with potential talent. That is considered scouting. If you do not meet our agency's physical requirement there is a chance that you will be dismissed at once. Do not wear any make up, these agents want to see the real you. Present yourself as a confident, well mannered individual. (Even if you get turned down) Don't take rejection to heart. Remember that the staff and rosters are always changing.
Modeling Conventions:
I'm sure that you have heard the advertisements on the radio for these conventions. They claim that they have discovered many successful models and that you could be next. Always be skeptical and take your time making decisions. No one should claim to make you wealthy but professional and experienced models do make a lot of money. With these companies you will meet real agents, However, keep in mind that there is sometimes a fee with agents that can cost up to hundreds of dollars. Local Model Sometimes local agencies will request that you sign a “mother agency “ agreement with them. It states that they will make 20% off what you make as a model. Be sure to think this through before signing. Make sure that an agency works well for you before signing.
Release:
The agency will require a release form from you if you intend to work for them as a model. A release is a legal document stating that you are releasing the photos to the agency and that the photos now belong to the agency.
