The Show

"During a recent gathering of Western Governments, a Top Secret Order was given to the security chiefs of 5 major nations... 'Find a solution to the atrocities that are increasingly dominating the world's headlines.' ...The message from the top was loud and clear - horrific events such as ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, the Oklahoma bombing, the mass slaughter of protected species in Africa, and the emergence of powerful mafias in the former Soviet Union can no longer be tolerated in a civilised world.

The answer was a brand new international force. A force with the skill and resources to combat society's evil enemies and win! Thus the new CI5 was born ..."

'The New Professionals' is a 90's version of the infamous 70's show 'The Professionals'. CI5 has become a global organization, combating international crime all over the world. The show follows the exploits and adventures of two partners, agents Sam Curtis and Chris Keel, as well as other characters, including their boss Harry Malone and the token female glamourous-computery-sidekick-type person, Tina Backus.

The Characters

Name Sam Curtis
Age 29
Background:
Born in London of humble origins, he won a scholarship to Edinburgh University to study Modern languages and was awarded a first calss honours degree. Head hunted by the British Secret Service, he became an undercover agent in some of the most dangerous parts of the world. CI5 has presented him with the greatest challenge of his life. And he relishes it, even more than he relishes the good thinds in life, like food, wine, clothes and music.

Name Chris Keel
Age 28
Background:
A Graduate of Indianapolis, Keel was trained as a US Navy fighter pilot. His thirst for adventure led him to join the famous Navy Seals, America's crack specialist forces. Despite a traumatic secret in his past (see below), he became one of the most distinguished special forces men in the history of the US Navy. He has now brought his skills, along with a rather suspect choice in clothes (i.e. everything in leather), to CI5 - the famous Professionals.

We know that he was married once, but his wife left him (details people!?!). There was actually quite a slashy scene in one of the first episodes where Chris was in bed, having a nightmare about his wife, and Sam had to comfort him. I'll leave the rest of that to your imagination...

Name Harry Malone
Age Old
Background:
Head of CI5. Born in Ireland, educated in the USA and trained by the CIA, Malone was once the West's most successful operator behind the Iron Curtain. He has risked his life in all four corners of the globe and is hailed as a legend among the world's Security Chiefs.

NB: Bodie - 51-year-old Lewis Collins - turned down this part. He didn't want to be away from his family for the eight months of filming.

Name Tina Backus
Age 28
Background:
Born in Toronto, Tina attended McGill University and graduated with Honours in Coputer Science. After a spell with IBM, she was poached by the Canadian Secret Service and carried out a series of top secret tasks in the Far East. intelligent, trained in the Martial Arts and with enough style to become a super model, Tina was snapped up by CI5 to become the first ever female Professional.

Ah, the token female of the motley crew.Very clever and quick with a computer, although she is treated more like a secretary than an agent by Malone and the rest of the CI5 staff. Very little character development so far.
