Chicken Cross the Road
Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?
Newsies Style
By: Alisha Erin Heavilon
Jack: Well, you owe me 2 feathers right? Well, I'll consider that an investment. We cross together, we'll run as fast as we can, plus you get the benefit of crossing with the best, me, no charge.
Spot: How do I know you chickens won't run the first time some truck comes at'cha with big tires? How do I know you got what it takes to cross? ['Cause I'll tellin' ya, Spot.] That ain't good enough chicken. You gotta show me.
Kid Blink: They added more cars! You hear that chicken? Ten times as many! You know, itâs bad enough that we get hit half the time, now they added more cars! Can you believe that?
Crutchy: I dunno. It's just there's so many fake chickens on the street today, a real chicken ain't got a chance. I gotta find me a new crossing spot where they ain't used to seeing me.
Medda: Oh Kelly. Where ya been, chicken? Oh, I miss seeing you cross the road.
Pulitzer: I know we need to cross the road faster. Thatâs why weâre here, to find out how to cross the road faster.
Dutchy: So, did I cross it right, Kloppman?
Davey: No, weâre just a bunch of angry chickens with wet feathers. Maybe if we got every chicken in New York, but...
Specs: Chicken born with three heads!
Race: In 1899, the streets of New York City echoed with the voices of chickens, hiding under the newspapers of Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other giants of the newspaper world. On every street corner you saw 'em, hiding under the banner, trying to get up the courage to cross the road. Poor hens and roosters, the chickens were a frightened group, without the guts to cross the road, until one day when all that changed.
Skittery: Thisâll bust me, Iâm barely making it across right now.
Kloppman: What do you mean you got hit? Will you get up? When you get up, it's time to get up! Chickens! Get up! Get up! Everychicken's sleeping. They sleep their lives away these chickens! The tires are rolling! Cross the road, cross the road! Come on, come on. You dreaming about crossing the road?
Seitz: That's how he crossed ahead of us. It's not the cars, Chief. The crossing wars are cutting into our profits because you spend as much as you make trying to beat Hearst across the road.
Snyder: You have a very famous friend, this chicken. Do you know where he crosses?
Sarah: Papaâs so proud of you and Rooster. You should hear him talking about the Chicken, road crosser, who occasionally takes his corn with us.
