The South-West of Ukraine. The
Chernivtsy region stretches for 8.1 thousand square
kilometres from the Carpathian woods up to Khotyn above the
Dnister river.
Welcome to this picturesque piece of Ukrainian land. This land is interlaced with the streams of the white-foamed Cheremosh river, the swiftness of the Prut river and the serene current of the Dnister river. It rings with its silver strings in the spruce winds of the Carpathians.
Old Khotyn, unique Chernivtsy and modern Novodnistrovsk will meet you. You will find here generous friends, talented and efficient people fond of their land, the wide basis for business, inexhaustible possibilities for the embodiment of the great variety of projects.
The Chernivtsy region is one of the youngest in Ukraine. It was formed in 1940. It has a favourable geographical and transportation location. It has a wide network of railways, roads, pipelines and electric lines. The region borders on the two foreign states - Roumania and Moldova - and the four regions of Ukraine: the Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnitsk and Vinnytsa regions.
The territory of the region is divided into three natural areas: forest-steppe, the foothills of the mountains and the highlands. The earth is rich in natural construction materials. The prospective deposits of oil and gas, phosphorites, sulphur, coal and other minerals are discovered. More than 30 percent of the area is covered with woods, about 60 percent is an agricultural land.
Industry and agriculture prevail in the structure of the economy.
The unique natural conditions, dozens of mineral water resources with valuable balneological characteristics, the existance of curative muds, numerous cultural, historical and folklore monuments, the highly developed infrastructure open the wide prospectives for the development of the recreational tourism.
The region is divided into 11 administrative districts. In 19 towns and settlements, in almost 400 villages the representatives of more than 90 nationalities live. Since 1945 the number of population in Chernivtsy has increased by 58 percent and now the number of 943.6 thousand people is registered.
The regional centre is the City of Chernivtsy (territory - 0,1 thou sq. km , population - 260,8 thou people).
As hystory witnesses, the recent regional center of Chernivtsy began its development from the fortress which was built in the river's Prut valley on the South-West border of Galych principality in the second half of the Xll-th century. The first records about this town were found in 1407.
Each epoch left its imprint on the town surface. The natural beauty and marwellous connection of architectural styles make it unique and extraordinary attractive.
The railroads connect Chernivtsy with many cities of Ukraine, Bulgaria, Roumania, Poland, Russia and Moldova Republic. This is the shortest connection with the Black Sea and Baltic ports.
Considerable scientific potential is concentrated in Chernivtsy. One of the oldest higher educational establishment of Ukraine - Chernivtsy State University, founded in 1875, is here. Chernivtsy State Medical Instutute has already celebrated its 50-th anniversary.
The industry is the base of town economy...
The fascinating land of the Cheremosh and Prut - grey olden times, the fairytale nature, rich history and culture, modem science, conciderable production potential and boundless spaciouness for the realization of you ideas.
The most important priorities of the economics are the development of tourism and recreational industry, people's domestic crafts, modern market infrastructure, spheres of trade and services, food, light and woodworking industries, agricultural and industrial complex and construction industry.
