Bonjour 'eh!
After my last sojourn to the east last year, I got smart; forget automobiles I said to myself, this time let's take a plane west. That was the best idea I've had yet!
One word would sum up my five days in Vancouver, surreal. Unlike RCW 139 last year, there was no running around, it was much more easy going, we actually had time to get to know each other, and we weren't stuck indoors all day. By the end of our trip, I can say for sure I definitely felt like a part of the HCLF.... the Hard Core Logo Family! I guess I should introduce you to the nine Buddies who showed up, there's me, Kirsten; Kari, Monica, Debby, Dawn, Cathi, Clemence; and Scarlet and Sierra, whose real names cannot be revealed because they would have to kill you.;)
If you want a more comprehensive story of our weekend, I suggest going to Kari's brand spankin' new web page: Hard Core Buddies Weekend: The Voyeuristic View So are ya jealous you didn't go now? Well, hey, there's always next year!Kirsten
Lovely downtown Vancouver, and harbour front. My highlights of the trip: Seeing the Prime Minister Of Canada, getting freaked out by a shrieking, rampaging hoard of little children on the Capilano Suspension Bridge, watching HCL again and shouting with victory as we realized we found the same steps from it's final scene, trying to remember how to use chopsticks again at the Chinese restaurant 'Beijing', eating a most decadent 'Devil In Disguise' at the restaurant 'Death By Chocolate', seeing Beluga Whales, a Killer Whale, Dolphin, and Sea Otter at the Vancouver Aquarium, tripping over animated toys at the Moose store on Robson, Clemence trying to buy up all of Canada and bring it back with her to Germany, watching 'Purple Toast' for the first time and freaking out as I told everyone all the places I could recognize from my home town, Edmonton, and standing outside of the motel where they shot the movie I haven't even seen yet, 'Suspicious River', but of course I am now dying to see.
L-R (1) Most of us in Kari and Monica's room on Oct 4th. (2) 'Death By Chocolate.' Debby, Clemence who's really enjoying her 'Devil In Disguise', Monica. (3) Between movies, the Reverend Monica reads to us from *The Book* 'Hard Core Road Show' (then reams me out for taking her picture), Kari kicks back. (4) Scarlet, Kari, and Debby try to figure out how to get to Hope. (5) In the Hope tourist office, Clemence, Debby, Kari, Dawn in the background, and Sierra. (6) G.K. Kan Yon Chinese restaurant in Hope. Dawn, Sierra, Clemence, Cathi, me, Scarlet, Monica, Debby. (Picture taken by Kari.)
See The Sites:
L-R (1) Outside the Commodore Ballroom, used in HCL. Kari, Scarlet. (2) The Starfish Room. Interior shots of the Regina, and Calgary concerts in HCL were done here. (3) The steps. The final scene with Hugh Dillion in HCL was shot here. (4) The Alley. It happens to be next to the building they shot the last scene, the alley appears in HCL when they are first loading the goat van up at the beginning of the tour. (5) We accidentally thought this was the wall at the beginning of HCL where Joe Dick is doing his rant, we found out later that it was just further up the alley. Kari, Clemence, Monica, Cathi. Also, Kari just happens to be wearing 'the jacket' she won from RCW here, the one Callum wore in three episodes of DS. I just have to say that the man has a small body frame! (6) The pig. The pig appears near the beginning of HCL in Joe's rant. I found this through sheer accident, thanks to Sierra for taking the picture.
Cross The Capilano Suspension Bridge:
L-R (1) Dawn and Kari brave the bridge where one of the scenes in HCL was shot. (2) Clemence, Monica, Cathi. Oh, oh, but what's coming up behind them! (3) Make a run for it! We ran for the other side of the bridge, but too late, here come the kids! (4) Monica's thinking spot, by the way, she's reading how to understand American! (5) Way, way up! (6) Dawn, Monica, Kari, Sierra, Cathi, and Clemence. (7) The suspension, or, um, torture, bridge. (8) Back to the other side, west coast natives share their music and dance.
Take A Dip:
(1) Vancouver aquarium. (2) Killer whale. (3) Sea Otter at dinner table. (4) Dolphin. No it's not dead! It's just swimming upside down. (5) Beluga hand stand. (6) Beluga with a permanent smile.
There's Suspicion In Hope:
(1) The exterior of this hotel was used in 'Suspicious River'. Room number nine was suppose to have been where all the <cough> action was taking place, and notice that the door is open! (2) Wider shot of the Thunder Bird Motel which was renamed for the movie. Cathi. (3) The Swan Cafe. Exterior was used in the movie, and we believe that it's entrance was subbed in as the interior for the motel lobby. (4) Downtown Hope B.C. Molly Parker's mother is suppose to live near by according to Lynne S. Star TV interview.
Now, He Seems Familiar:
(1) Cathi's Ray Vecchio id from Due South. (2) It was autographed on the back by CKR. (3) Kari's autographed Ray Vecchio id. There's that jacket again. Take a look and compare!
