What is a webring?

A web ring is a group of sites joined together on the internet. Through navigation links found most often at the bottom of member pages, visitors can travel all or any of the sites in a ring. They can move through a ring in either direction, going to the next or previous site, or listing the next five sites in the ring. They can jump to a random site in the ring, or survey all the sites that make up the ring. A web ring brings additional hits to your page because of its very nature.

The Lavender Hill Ring is a grouping of attractive and informative sites found in the Movie Mania Community of Fortune City. The sites principly [but not necessarily] deal with the theater or television in some form.

Qualifications for joining:

Membership in the LH Web Ring is not automatic. It is a priviledge earned by the web master and must be applied for and approved. While not an award, the ring supposedly represents the best that is available in the community. Candidates will therefore be closely scrutinized before they are admitted. In order to maintain quality sites on the ring the following are the minimum requirements:

That's it. Quick and simple. All submissions are reviewed by the District Minister, his Assistant, and occassionally by the Floating Minister. Their decision is final. Make sure your home is 'up to snuff' before submitting.

How to join ~~~     Read carefully ....

Joining a ring is easy. People make it hard by not following directions. Follow these steps exactly:

1) Make sure your site is up to speed, then submit using the form further down on this page. Your site will be entered into a queue and be reviewed. The webring will automatically send you an email with your Site ID on it.

2) Cut and paste the ring code you see further below onto your page where ever you wish.. DO NOT MODIFY IT except as noted below. Modifications sometimes cause the navigation panel to not display correctly.

Note: The HTML code w/ your site information and graphics must be added to your site BEFORE your ring link will be activated.

3) The two graphics for the ring must also be loaded on your site. You may save them from here. Right click on each image then choose "Save Image As..." to save it to your hard drive. Then upload the .jpg files to your address in FortuneCity. Do NOT rename the images.

4) Once you accomplish the above, you must email either the Community minister or his Assistant who will then review your site and activate the code. Sites which join the ring queue but do not have the code and graphics up within two weeks will be removed from the queue and have to reapply.     C'mon .... two weeks is enough time to paste, modify the code and download the images (about 15 minutes worth of work).

5) [Optional] I highly recommend you include the following code at the top of your web page in case the ring member before you used frames {just cut and paste it using your own site address where appropriate} ---

<CENTER><table border=2><td><A HREF="http://www.fortunecity.com/lavendar/YOUR SITE ADDRESS" target="_parent">Click Here</A> If You're Stuck in a Frame.</table></CENTER>

It will look like this:

Click Here If You're Stuck in a Frame.

Some people use frames on their site. If the person in front of you on the webring uses frames, then your entire site will be confined to one of their frames when a ring surfer trys to visit you via the ring. How it will look will depend upon how they have their frames set up, however, most of the time it doesn't display very well.

Cut and paste this code. Do not modify it except as instructed above
