This part of the page is about the character David portrays on One Life to Live, Cristian Vega. This guy has been through quite alot, and things just get more complex as time goes on. Because of lack of time on my part and the fact that I didn't watch the show until January 2000, this summary comes from ABC's One Life to Live Website. The most interesting thing was that David stepped into this role when another actor stepped out of it and David has portrayed Cristian very well.

Cristian Vega is only a teenager, but he's been seen a lot of loss and hardship in his young life. He's a bright, strong and talented
Latino, who lives with his mother, Carlotta. Since he was a little boy, he has considered himself her protector. After all, he had
been the man in the family ever since his father died, and his older brother Antonio went to prison on murder charges.

Cristian is an excellent student, with a particular talent for art, which his teachers have encouraged him to develop. Cris proudly displayed his artistic prowess in 1995 when he designed the Angel
statue that stands tall in the revitalized Angel Square.

When he was first seen in 1995, Cristian Vega was a teenager in great conflict. His mother, Carlotta and imprisoned older brother, Antonio, urged the young man to steer clear of the Angel Square gangs and the perilous street life that surrounded them. When Antonio was released from jail, he discovered Cristian carrying a gun. Antonio confiscated the weapon, and urged his kid brother never to get involved with gangs, because it destroyed lives.

In the summer of 1995, Cris met pretty blonde Jessica Buchanan at a dance party in Angel Square. They hit if off immediately, but their cultural differences proved paramount. "Jessie" came from an entirely different world from his -- she had money, power, comfort, safety. Cris knew only poverty, danger, and fear. Despite their differences, Cris reached beyond his social class to become Jessica's first
boyfriend.

As their young love progressed, Cristian struggled to free himself from the gang life that had done such irreparable damage to his
family. When Jessica's father, Clint Buchanan caught the kids in the early throes of passion, he forbade Jessica from seeing Cristian, and Carlotta Vega could only concur.

In 1996, Cristian urged Jessica to take their relationship "all the way." Jessica struggled with the decision, not ready to take the big step.
This crisis in their relationship led to several break-ups and make-ups throughout the year. When Cris was found guilty and of breaking into a car (he was an innocent victim but was charged nonetheless) he was given probation and community service as punishment. Worse, this talented artist was denied a scholarship to college because of his conviction. Antonio took a desperate step to insure that his kid brother did not continue further down the wrong road. To get the money Cris needed to attend college, Antonio sold his soul to the devil -- Carlo Hesser. Carlo offered Antonio a chance to help his brother -- in exchange Antonio would be forced to do Hesser's dirty work.

In the spring of 1997, Jessica served as a source of strength for Cristian while his brother Antonio stood trial for the murder of Carlo Hesser. When Antonio was cleared, Cris took Jessie to a cabin in the woods, but once again, she backed down, unwilling to lose her virginity. Soon after, Jessica was stricken when Cristian suggested that they should see other people. Though Jessica is the number one person in his heart, the person he will always love, he felt that they were on different paths. Though Cristian was reluctant to put it into words, Jessica knew what the problem was: he wanted to have sex, and she didn't. Though they cared deeply for each other, Cristian and Jessica's relationship was at an impasse.

Cristian and Jessica managed to rebuild their relationship and their love grew stronger until Cristian's childhood friend Roseanne Delgado blew into town. Roseanne came to
Llanview with only one thing on her mind - Cristian! This caused a strain on his relationship with Jessica. Jessica caught Cristian and Roseanne sharing a firey kiss and Jessica soon wound up in the arms of Will Rappaport.

Cristian even stood by Jessica when she found out that she had gotten pregnant by Will. After a few tense months, Cristian and Jessica seemed blissfully happy and anxiously awaited the birth of Jessica's baby. They had their life all planned out. Cristian and Jessica were going to get married and move to New York City after the baby's birth. Their plans were shattered when Jessica was struck by a car and lost her child. Jessica awoke from a coma with no memory of ever loving Cristian!

When Jessica took a road trip with Will, Cristian was
convinced their relationship was over. Roseanne was there to help Cristian pick up the pieces. Even though his heart belonged to Jessica, Cristian gave in to temptation and made love to Roseanne!

Unbeknownst to Cristian, Jessica was actually headed back to Llanview to try and rebuild their relationship! Upon Jessica's return to town, she went to tell Cristian that she loved him and wanted him back. Cristian was in bed with Roseanne when Jessica arrived. Roseanne managed to slip out unnoticed when she heard Jessica say that she wanted to get back together. A confused Cristian told Jessica to take a few days to make sure of her feelings. Meanwhile, Roseanne told Will about her and Cristian's new relationship.

Cristian was going to come clean to Jessica about his new relationship with Roseanne, but fate had other plans. Cristian came to Roseanne's rescue on the docks when she was attacked. Cristian was forced to admit the truth that he had slept with Roseanne when Jessica walked in and saw Cristian comforting her. Jessica wanted nothing more to do with Cristian and ran out. A short while
later, Cristian and Roseanne moved to New York City and Roseanne was determined to make him forget all about Jessica.

Roseanne was upset when Cristian rushed back to Llanview when he thought that Jessica was in trouble. By the time Cristian arrived at Llanfair, Jessica's ordeal with Dorian was already over and he witnessed Will comforting Jessica. Cristian then returned to New York City and Roseanne was determined to keep him and Jessica apart. Roseanne enlisted Will's help in keeping Cristian and Jessica apart and after Asa secretly arranged to have Cristian's scholarship cancelled, Roseanne convinced Will to give her the money for Cristian's tuition. Soon thereafter, Roseanne told Will that she needed more money to keep her and Cristian in New York City. Will refused to give Roseanne any more money at first, but then wrote her a check from the Megan Foundation, which he planned on repaying.

Jessica and Cristian still had feelings for one another and Cristian was furious when he learned that Roseanne had hidden a note Jessica had left for him at the diner. On New Year's Eve, Cristian tracked Jessica down and demanded that she hear him out. Cristian explained about the misunderstanding that had led him to move to New York City with Roseanne and said that he and Jessica would still be together if he hadn't jumped to the wrong conclusion. Cristian then pulled Jessica into a passionate kiss and she
didn't pull away.

Cristian whisked Jessica away to the rustic cabin motel they had stayed at when they had ran away to get married. The passion start to grow between them, but Jessica pulled back and told Cristian that she was in love with Will. Hurt by
Jessica's rejection, Cristian ended up proposing to Roseanne and she readily accepted.

On Roseanne and Cristian's wedding day, Jessica went to New York City to tell Cristian the truth and Roseanne and Will's duplicity. Roseanne locked Jessica in a closet to prevent her from speaking to Cristian and the wedding went off as planned. After Cristian and Roseanne were pronounced husband and wife, Jessica arrived and told Cristian the truth. Cristian then walked out on an inconsolable
Roseanne.

Cristian tried to end his marriage to Roseanne, but she refused to grant him an annulment. During this time, Cristian also came to believe that Asa had framed Will for embezzlement. Cristian shared his newfound belief with Jessica, who reluctantly came to accept the worst about her grandfather. Cristian wanted an even playing field and didn't want Jessica choosing to be with him simply because Will had been sent to prison on trumped up charges. Jessica and Cristian ended up tracking Asa down in Baltimore and Jessica successfully got Asa to admit his guilt on tape.

Cristian and Jessica intercepted the train transferring Will to prison and gave Bo Asa's taped confession. Cristian and Jessica then watched in horror as the train was involved in a
horrendous accident. In the pandemonium that followed, Cristian and Jessica were able to whisk Will away from the authorities.

Jessica vowed to stay by Will until his name could be cleared and Cristian also made it clear that he would be staying with them as well. Cristian, Jessica and Will then went on the run
together and became fugitives from the law. The tension continued to rise between Will and Cristian as they both
wanted Jessica for themselves while trying to elude the authorities and clear Will's name.

The tension continued between Will and Cristian while on the run with Jessica. Todd added fuel to the fire and continued to manipulate the situation to his own advantage. To that end, Todd told Cristian that Viki was dying. Cristian then told Will and said that either Will leave on his own or Cristian would turn him in. Thinking he was doing the right thing, Will gave Jessica an ultimatum -- choose between him and Cristian. Jessica told Will to leave and thought he had betrayed her. Jessica then told Cristian that he was the man who truly loved her and they were soon engaged.

Desperate to make things right with Jessica, Will wrote her a letter explaining why he had left. While at Jessica's, Cristian spotted Will's letter and pocketed it. Cristian then had a change of heart and gave Jessica Will's letter. Jessica was furious at Cristian and said they were through before heading to Ireland to search for Will. Cristian also headed to Ireland, where Jessica jumped to the wrong conclusion that he had helped Max track down Will, who was arrested. Jessica's rejection caused Cristian to go on a downward spiral and he began trying to drink his troubles away. Antonio, however, has vowed to try and help his brother any way that he can.

Cristian was further crushed when Jessica and Will became a couple. After drinking too much at the Crossroads one night, Cristian hot wired Todd's car and prepared to drive off. Knowing Cristian was drunk, Sophia jumped in the car with him to try and prevent him from driving. Cristian drove off with Sophia and soon crashed the car. In the process of getting an injured Sophia out of the wreckage, Cristian hurt his hand and required emergency surgery. Although not a life threatening injury, Cristian's recklessness may have cost him his career as an artist.

Cristian surprised Jessica and Will when he moved into their building. Although things were still strained between Cristian and Jessica, they did agree to try and be civil with each other. Cristian also started working at Break Bar, RJ's newest business venture. Antonio was concerned about Cristian working for RJ and Cristian was soon asking RJ to allow himself to get involved in some of his more shady activities. However, a good-hearted Cristian eventually let Antonio into his plan to bring down R.J. for good.

Lately, Cristian has grown close to Jennifer Rappaport, Will's sister. Jen came to depend on Cristian as she coped with the aftermath of Colin's murder. While they have not admitted to being more than good friends, Jen and Cristian shared their first kiss in April.
