Mrityudaata

     Direction : Mehul Kumar
     Music : Anand-Milind

Rating: 2 out of 4 stars

After almost a gap of five years, the Big B is here again to entertain
his fans. This movie is Amitabh's come back vehicle. There are
some of his die-hard fans who would definitely watch this movie
and there are those who believe that he owes it to them to revive
that old magic. Perhaps, someone else could create the magic -
Karishma Kapoor, the reigning queen of Bollywood or the aging
yet gorgeous Dimple Kapadia. Definitely not with their histronics
(What, with Amitabh around, na na nare) but with their glamorous
                              presence.

It is not too good a film. Again he is going back to the Dewaar days. There he is portraying the
angry young man (or is it budda - no offence meant) dancing his way and looking suave as
     ever.

Dr Ram Prasad Ghayal (Amitabh) is a surgeon whose scalpel proves to be a magic wand. He
has a wife called Janaki (Dimple) and a brother called Bharat. Bharat is in love with a dancing
doll Renu (Karishma) whom the baddie's brother (Deepak Tijouri) also loves. Bharat, an
architect refuses to sign a power project involving heavy kickbacks and heavier displacement
(with so many scams in the air, what can one expect the plot to be). He is implicated in a plot
and sent to jail. Unable to bear this humiliation, he commits suicide and bhabi dies of the shock
of losing her devar (brother-in-law). After the death of her lover Renu marries Deepak instead
of repenting her beloved's loss. Now is the time for our `Mrityudaata' to avenge the loss of his
wife and his brother. He trades his scalpel for a machine gun and apron for a commando coat
     and cap.

The songs are not all that inspiring except for `Na na na na naare...' which is picturised on
Amitabh and the desi pop star Daler Mehndi. Amitabh's fans will be in for disappointment, not
with his performance but the way the subject is handled by the director - Mehul Kumar.

In this story an evil sorcerer turns Karishma (Karishma Kapoor) into a mannequin, and destroys Govinda (Krishna).  Years later, with the help of the serpent god they are reunited.  It takes Krishna some time to figure out what's happening.   Karishma won't be fully set free of the curse until the sorcerer is dead.  The movie is not that good, but it has a lot of good music.

Govinda (Raja Babu) is the son of a rich man.  He grew up rich, wealthy, and got what ever he wanted.  He sees Madhubala's picture(Karishma Kapoor) and falls in love immediately, when they are about to get married, Karisma finds out Govinda is illiterate.  She refuses to marry him, and insults his father.  Raja's father forbids the marriage and makes plans for him to marry someone else.  Meanwhile the father's brother and nephew tricks him by saying the wrong thing so that they could inherit the family fortune.  This movie is very funny and contains many good songs.

Raja Hindustani

                 Cast: Aamir Khan
Ratings: 4 out of 4 stars

Raja Hidustani takes time to get into groove.Th e begining does not look
promising at all.It starts of with a pampered daughter(who actually looks like a
vacant eyed puppy)Arti(Karishma Kapoor)telling her doting father (Suresh
Oberoi) that she would rather go to Palan Khet(in the Himallayas) than
                   Switzerland(How original?).And of course you have a step-mama(Archana
Puran Singh )and her bald-domed brother(Pramod Moutho) who bid their time
to lay their hands on the tycoon's loot, accompanied by yet another pair of
retainers (Veeru Kishna an Navneet Nishan) who are ardent belivers in
cross-dresing. Arti goes to Palan Khet and is immediately wafted to dreamland courtesy the
cutie pie taxi driver (Aamir Khan) who moons over his Pardesi Memsaab all through the long
ride, warbling his instant feelings in melodious song, peeppered by pithy comments from his
pint-sized boy-cleaner. After some romancing the couple finnaly let the pappa know and get
his blessing for their Shadhi after minor tussles.Only a fine line seperates Raja's
     uncompromisig self-respect from arrogance,when rejecting his rich father-in-law's gift.He
suddenly becomes insensitive towards Arti's feelings (?) and hence results the marital tensions.
Finally all goes well in the end but not before you o through the usual climax of
dushkum-dushkum's and playing catch- catch with Arti and Raja's baby.It is after all a regullar
Hindi-movie where the audience know what to expect from the next scean-Nothing
new-.Music is good. Photography is good.All-in-all watchable for time-passers.
