CAVE MAP - CRACKING THE CODE!
In Season One, we are introduced to the map in “Riverdog.” Riverdog shows strange writings to Max and Liz after Max passes the test. Max is unable to read the writings. In “The Balance”, Max tells us that he has drawn the cave writings from memory after Michael discovers the map at the Crashdown (tucked in Max is books). Michael later has a vision during his illness in which he sees symbols from the drawing. When his “balance” has been restored by the healing, Michael takes the five healing stones and places the stones on various points in the cave writings. He states, “It’s a map.” In “Blind Date”, Michael determines that when Ares is in a certain place in the sky, all the other symbols take on locations (even though later on he thinks he has made a mistake). He determines the symbols represents ROSWELLIAN locations which is why he selects the library grounds to send his signal to the library. When he receives no immediate response to his signal, he concludes he interpreted the map wrong and goes back to the drawing board. Well, he's partially right. He missed the purpose of the map, not the location.
After reviewing these three episodes, it becomes clear that the cave map is a treasure map. On the piece of paper Max draws what he remembers of the cave painting. From that drawing, we can positively identify three key locations to Roswell and its environs.

1) THE LIBRARY. Michael and Isabel draw a symbol in front of the Roswell Public Library and set it afire thinking it will attract the Nasedo (which it did or is it , or is it another protector?). Michael, who has been trying to decipher the map, pinpointed the location correctly, but the not the real purpose of the location. The symbol was NOT placed on the map to communicate with the Nasedo. It was to indicate that there was an alien artifact hidden in the library. THE DESTINY BOOK. When Tess shows The Destiny Book to Max, it bears the symbol that Michael uses to determine it as the library. Ironically, Michael says this is the symbol outside the cave. However, in reviewing the episodes, the symbol the protector leaves is really the orb symbol.

2). THE POD CHAMBER. On this same map we also have the squiggles which represent a stylized drawing of the rocks of the pod chamber. To the left of these squiggles is the symbol for the pods. Again, we have a location plus an alien connection, the pods, the pod squad and the Granilith.
3). THE RADIO TOWER. On the map, there is the symbol for the orb which Liz and Max find in “Sexual Healing”. To the right of it, is what APPEARS to be strange writing. WRONG! What this is a stylized DRAWING of the abandoned radio tower as Liz and Max found it in “Sexual Healing”! At the bottom of the radio tower, Max and Liz find the orb. Notice the dot at the end of the horizontal tower.

In “Blind Date” which precedes “Sexual Healing”, the map appears superimposed over Liz & Max’s kiss on stage. Smack dab in the middle is the radio tower! So “Blind Date” FORESHADOWS an event which happens later - Liz’s flashes in “Sexual Healing” of the radio tower! Again, we have a location and an alien artifact.
Each location seems to have a direct bearing on the object to be found. In the library is found a book; at the radio tower is found a communications device. So each part of the map, if we can identify the location probably gives us a CLUE as to WHAT the object to be found is.

As near as can be determined, of the eleven symbols drawn on Max's copy of the cave map, there are five objects to be found on the map whose locations have a direct bearing with the “V” constellation that Michael uses to navigate the map. Each location/object found lies directly in the “V” path Michael creates with the healing stones on the cave map. Coincidentally or not, this constellation shape also bears striking resemblance to the Royal Seal (etched in Max's head) in “Max and the City” which represents Antar’s galaxy. Also interesting to note is this same “V” pattern of the healing stones appears stretched between Liz and Max during the "Blind Date" kiss while the constellation moments later appears on Liz's forehead. Is this deliberate positioning? Does this “V” pattern tell us something about the fourth and fifth objects?
There are a couple of possibilities for locations for the fourth object: Frazier Woods or Atherton’s geodesic dome. Frazier Woods borders the Indian Reservation and Pohlman Ranch. It is also where the cave is so the map could be considered the treasure here. It is also where the protector leaves the orb symbol in the forest and where the gandarium crystals were found. However, I think Frazier Woods is the lesser of the two possibilities. So Frazier Woods makes a good candidate for the fourth location. Another possibility is for the fourth location is Atherton’s geodesic because we also have a removable alien artifact: the pendant found by Isabel. The symbol also matches that of the orb which appears on the map.
And if we flip the map upside down, the map fits the positioning for all the locations discovered so far. The crash, according to most historical sources, supposedly takes place north/northwest of Roswell. If we position the apex of the “V” northward, the pod chamber becomes the top of the map. Running south we have the radio tower which we know is two miles from the crashsite, then Atherton’s geodesic dome as the furthermost point. On the other side of the “V”, we have the Public Library as the furthermost point with the unknown fifth location falling somewhere between.

The unaccounted fifth location and object remains a mystery. But there are possibilities about the location. Frazier Woods again is a possibility (because of the cave map and constellation references), but there are two other possible locations: The UFO Center which we know houses an alien artifact -- the unknown artifact that Brody buys or The Crashdown which may house the greatest treasure of all. Why the Crashdown? In examining the symbols, the fourth location of the healing stones seems to represent a drawing of a galaxy. This drawing in some ways is reminiscent of The Crashdown logo and sign. We also know that the Crashdown is an alien-themed restaurant so it is possible that among the decor there is an actual alien artifact or a bigger surprise for us all.
