>>I'm seriously considering ordering "The Search for One-Eye Jimmy" and "Somebody to Love" from Suncoast Video.

I really wouldn't recommend owning either. Both are good to see once (Steve in drag is wonderful), and One-Eye is better than Somebody, but neither are keepers (in my opinion). I actually found Search for... at Blockbuster (of all places) and Somebody to Love I got at Wherehouse.

>>And Ville, Puck's opinion is that "Slaves of New York" is not worth it, except for Steve's parts. It's a long movie that grates on you after a while. I wouldn't buy it. You should be able to rent it, though.

I found this movie to be painful and gut-wrenching to watch. I'd rather pull out my own tonsils than see this again. But that's just my opinion. And Steve has a total of 10 minutes in the whole thing.

Okay, I haven't seen Marni tell the story yet, so I will.

This chick calls a hotel where Steve is staying. She asks for Steve Boo-SEH-mee. The clerk says, "Who?" So she says it again, Steve Boo-SEH-mee. He says, "Oh, you mean the actor. He's out right now, and by the way, I believe it's pronounced Boo-SHEM-mee." To which she replied, "Just leave a message that his wife called."

No, I don't know when this movie is coming out yet -- But, I did realize something yesterday. Maybe you guys already noticed this and I'm just the last one to see it. I was watching IN THE SOUP yesterday on IFC and I noticed that the two Italian-American landlords in the movie were named -- you guessed it, Louis and Frank! In the few descriptions that I've seen of LOUIS ET (and) FRANK, it said that the movie was about two Italian-American cousins (or brothers) whose cousin from Italy tries to convince them to pursue a career singing do-wop. Do you remember the scene in IN THE SOUP that had Louis and Frank singing to an elderly tenant? I wonder if Steve is going to reprise his role as Aldolpho Rollo (one of my favorite Steve characters)? I hope he has a nice size part. Is Rosie Perez going to be Angelica? I hope not -- I like Jennifer Beals in the role.

Hmmm....I have a question I have always been confused about....

I have ALWAYS pronounced Steve's name BOO-SHEE-MEE which I like and have heard a number of times. Then I heard itw as BOO-SHEM-EE and decided on THAT. THEN I heard BOO-SEH-MEE from this ARMEGGEDDON prevue. SO, WHAT IS IT??? IS that story true about his wife? Is it really BOO-SEH-MEE?

Thanks everyone!

Subject: Louis And Frank cont' & Buscemi Pronunciation
Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 20:14:47 -0800 (PST)
From: Kelly

One more reason that I think that LOUIS AND FRANK is about those two brothers (cousins?) that were in IN THE SOUP is because those actors that played them; Steven Randazzo (Louis) & Francesco Messina (Frank), are also listed as cast members in LOUIS AND FRANK.

About the pronunciation of Buscemi:
That anecdote that was repeated for us was in a article about Steve that was in "US" magazine last fall. Steve, himself told that story. And around the same time last year I saw a clip of an interview with Steve that was on "Showtime", where he said that there is no definitive pronunciation of his last name, but that he pronounces it "Boo-seh-mee". He also said that he likes the pronunciation "Boo-sheh-mee" too, so he doesn't correct anybody when they say it that way. He then said that he *would* correct people if they said "Boo-skeh-mee", though :)

Looks like the LIO TRIO got skunked. Was kinda hoping at least James would get a nod for MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS, and geez, nothing for Tom DiCillo for BOX OF MOONLIGHT? Full nominations follow for those who might be interested. There's still a hope that Steve, James or Dermot will be a presenter. RW

The nominees for the 13th annual Independent Spirit Awards were announced at an IFP/West reception in Los Angeles last night....(snip)

According to http://members.aol.com/SonySddS1/releasedates.html, there's a "Making of" book on The Big Lebowski. See March 16 entry. Page includes link to Amazon.com site where you can buy it on-line (or just get more info about the book). FYI, I've never had any trouble buying stuff on-line from Amazon (they even found me a hard-back of ADDIE PRAY!). $17.

I have to agree with Liisa here.

After a long (ok, only 3 month) search for _Somebody to Love_, I finally found it at a small video store around my school. I have to say, the only parts worth seeing in this film are the poster of _In the Soup_ which I'm now drooling over almost as much as the one for _Trees Lounge_, and Steve singing. If only he didn't have Rosie join in with him for a duet. *sigh* He's really got a good voice. Also, he's very good at playing feminine.

As for _One-Eye Jimmy_ vs. _Somebody to Love_, I have to say that as intolerable as I found _Somebody_ to be, it's still a better film overall than _One-Eye_, esp. Steve's character. I nearly went crazy watching _One-Eye_. (Btw, if anyone has seen _One-Eye_ and tv's _The Practice_, have you realized that "Jimmy the Saint" is the same guy as "Big Head"?)

Ok, I don't know if the movie is as bad as Liisa makes it out to be, but I do know that it is pretty horrible. Steve has more like 5 minutes of screen-time, if even that. And, this character is not worth bothering with. I'd much rather have to sit through all 8 hours of _Lonesome Dove_ again. (OK, I only watched 6 hours.)

Hmm. It seems to me that Steve has been in more roles as characters that I can't stand, as opposed to those that I can. Odd that he's my favorite actor when one considers that. Does anyone else find that this is the case?

I actually had to bring out a picture of him and then everyone was like, "Ohhhh, THAT guy!" Duh.

Ok. Let me get this straight. You were at a friend's house, and had to try to get these people to know who Steve is. When nobody knew the characters, you *pulled out a picture*? Where exactly did you pull this picture from? Your wallet? And, here I thought I was a devoted fan. ;-)

From: Marni Hager

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what your longest search for a movie with Steve has been. The only catch is that you have to have actually seen the movie already. My personal one was for _Parting Glaces_ which took me a year and a half. Every time I went into a video store, I was searching for this one. I nearly went crazy when I actually found it at a place where I didn't have an account. I forced my mother (because I didn't have a credit card at the time) to go open a membership that weekend. Before that weekend, I was seriously considering an interlibrary loan. The things I'll do to see a film that he's in. But, this one was *definitely* worth it.

Mine, unfortunately was for "Somebody to Love" -- all that work for nothing. The worst part was that after I found a video store that carried it, I accidentally rented "Someone to Love". WORSE THAN "SOMEBODY"!!!! A Henry Jaglom film about self-absorbed Baby Boomers trying to explain what true love is in a pseudo-play format. I kept fast-forwarding, looking for Steve. LOL -- that was stupid!

Actually I'm quite lucky in finding Steve films, because a) Los Angeles is loaded with some really great video stores that specialize in the artsy indie stuff and b) I live in West Hollywood, which is the gay section of town, so my local video store also carries anything with anyone cross-dressing or anyone gay (thus Somebody to Love and Parting Glances).

I saw Good Will Hunting yesterday, and not only was there a mini-bio of Steve on one of those pre-movie Cinema Slides (the pic from Fargo, but I've seen the one with the pic from Desperado too), BUT I saw the full trailer for "Armageddon" (finally) AND the trailer for "Wedding Singer" (another Adam Sandler flick -- but this one looks really good and Steve has a small part in it). I was so excited, I started clapping whenever Steve was on screen -- my friends did too, because they thought it was so silly.

Ok, I've written enough to bore everyone to tears... :-)

Oh, all this bashing of "In the Soup" has got to stop! I didn't think it was so terrible. I love the B&W film-within-a-film that has his mother in it...it was so mock-artistic that it made me appreciate the whole movie. [By the way, I also have the poster for "Soup", which is readily available in these parts. Let me know if you're ~really~ dying to have it.] I'm also fond of "The Search..." if only because of Samuel L. Jackson's cameo (and OF COURSE Steve).

As for "Somebody to Love": bash away.

Hi, everyone!

Update from Puck...
I've been having a really bad year, for various reasons. I guess the time was right for something good to finally happen... the other night I found both "Somebody to Love" and "The Search for One-Eye Jimmy" at my local video store. Amazing, after 7 months of searching to find both on the same night!

On "Somebody to Love" -- I can't believe Steve looks that good as a woman! Hope he stays away from Florida happy hours, or I may end up single for the rest of my life! The movie wasn't good, but then again, it wasn't as unwatchable as say "Floundering" or "The Last Outlaw." I actually found some of it amusing. I brought it to my mom's house (she didn't believe me when I told her that Garland Greene from Con Air made a foxy lady). Well, Harvey Keitel is spoutin' out the F-word left and right. Good thing mom and I have an open, 90's kinda relationship...

On "The Search for One-Eye Jimmy" -- I felt like Geraldo on that one. All that time spent searching for ... well, nothing. Steve looked terrible. Drinking beer, burping, and the movie was just plain lousy, if you ask me. There were a few funny lines, and yes, Sam Jackson was way cool (as always), but I'm real glad I didn't buy this one. Thanks for the advice, guys.

And by the way, I don't know if any of you are X-Files fans, but did you catch Sunday night's ep? I thought the young kid bore more than just a passing resemblance to our dear Mr. Bu-SEM-mi...

And I did manage to tape "Monsters" on Monday. Had to do it at my mom's house because I don't get the Sci-Fi channel. I think mom wants me to go into therapy...

Anyway, the ep would have been kinda sexy if that woman wasn't such a dog. Anyone else agree?

I've still got a few more movies to rent. Sometime in the next week I'm planning to rent "Kiss Daddy Goodnight," "Criss Cross," "Billy Bathgate," and/or "King of New York." I might also rent "Mystery Train" and/or "Rising Sun," since I haven't seen them in a while.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm really glad I joined this mail group. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Later!
Puck

P.S. I'd love that "In The Soup" poster... what would I have to do to get it?

Sometime next week, when finals are less of a pain in my ass (my silly school has finals in January...), I will pop back over to the place where I got my "In the Soup" poster. I'll find out if the woman does mail-order, or if there's some other easy way to arrange an order. I'll let you know when I have a clue.

Which reminds me, does anyone know where the "Trees Lounge" video poster can be acquired? Not the movie one, with Steve and the old man; but the video one that has him halfway reclining in a booth or something.

In repsonse to people's requests for movie posters, I just thought I'd share the name of a really great place: Rick's Movie Graphics. They have original and reprints of a ton of posters. Take a look at their site: http://www.ricksmovie.com/index.shtml. You can email them from there about specific posters.

I also know that the _Trees Lounge_ poster with Steve in the booth cost $20 (possibly $18.. it's been a while) + $5 shipping in the last few months of the year. I can't imagine that the price has gone up. I'm still lusting after that poster myself; and if I don't get it for my birthday from my boyfriend, I'm going to order it personally.

There's also a really great movie poster store on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles near the Mann's Chinese Theatre. I have the address in my dorm room. They also do phone orders. When I went in, they didn't have any of _Trees Lounge_. The cool thing about this place is that they have slides that they can make prints off of. These cost $5 a picture, plus a shipping fee for each order. (Multiple prints in the same order are one fee.) I got 2 made from _Trees Lounge_, 1 from _Ed and His Dead Mother_, and one that was with the _Trees Lounge_ slides, but I don't know how to describe what it actually is. It's not a shot from the movie itself. It's more like a casting call picture. Anyway, I'll get you the name and phone number of this place as soon as possible.

And, while I'm on this really cool place. When I went in, the first guy I spoke to didn't know who Steve was. He went and asked the second guy about the _Trees Lounge_ poster for me, and started to say Steve's name. The second guy said 'Yeah, I know who he is.' Also, one of the owners (I'm assuming) of this place had a personalized autograph from Steve on a picture of "'Map to the Stars' Eddie."

Last but not least, there is another place on Hollywood Blvd. (actually 2) that have a shot of the guys walking from the titles sequence in _Reservoir Dogs_ signed by the *entire* cast. One of the places was asking for $200. I didn't bother enquiring at the second.
>
I think that covers everything right now. There are a few other places around, but again, I don't have the addresses handy.
