My friends and i got together and wrote some poetry about Steve...my, we are a
talented bunch, aren't we? ;)

Here is my poem:

Ode to Steve by: Jennifer Dunning

Started off
acting gay.
(My friends love you
just that way).

Trusting Beatrice
building fame.
Yet some still can't
pronounce your name.

You dabbled in
writing and directing.
Is that your life
that you're reflecting?

Coens' Fargo
seen by many.
Oh my god!
They've killed Buscemi!

Conan loved you,
Andy, too--
who couldn't put
the moves on you!

King of Indie,
King of Live.
Did your career
just take a dive?

Here's to hoping,
in your prime,
That you're still with us
all the time.

_____

       Steve by Suchi Sharma

Steve (Nick, Eddie)
a little pale, claiming the air
 where they stand
kinda traveling,
Funny you should ask, while
Looking at the stars,
the map to the stars conveniantly
      sold--not followed.
Stuck in the Indie World
  nonetheless--
we follow in the path of Greatness.
_____

Steve 2 by Suchi Sharma

Remembered the same,
Psycho killer (often more than once)
and very often, ocassionally killed-off--
never to return
Knives
Wood Chippers
Heart Attacks
What else could they do
to torture you?
Perhaps kick you off the planet
as your voice fades to
"Beam me up Scotty"
It won't do much for your
reputation.
But no matter what they say
you are still our
temptation.

I hope you liked our creativity!!!

If I could have Steve in my life, I would have him as a best friend. I feel
more comfortable with guy friends that boyfriends at this point in my life. I
think Steve would make the ideal friend...he is funny, caring, has a good
relationship with his family. Of course, he would be the friend that I would
lust after, but overall I would prefer to have his sexy self as a friend.

I like Steve in Hollywood movies for two reasons:

1. They are extremely fun (and funny sometimes) to watch.
2. They are easy to find and to see.

I do prefer him in indie movies, but I have nothing against Hollywood movies
with him in it...for example....I can't wait for Armaggedon!!!!

I feel like this is a trick question, because of course I'd want Steve

as a close friend. Not that I know him personally, but in his
interviews he comes off as a really sweet, funny, down-to-earth guy.
Plus, he's fine!

Did anybody see the Steve/Conan clip on Talk Soup today? I can't say

Well, it's been a while since I saw the episode, but he was some kind
of a henchman of a big crook or something. It wasn't a particularly big
role, but not small either (i.e. it wasn't a role that you miss if you
blink). He was on in several scenes. The funniest scene, I think, was when
he was sitting in a restaurant (eating dessert) and Sonny (Don Johnson)
rushes in, grabs him and punches him down. :)

As to if he was good-looking, I'm not going to answer because I'm
getting pissed with this list being filled with "Ooh! He's so cute!"
messages.

I agree with wanting to see him as a regular guy and/or romantic lead.
However, the people who make "GOOD" movies are already casting him. I can
only point you towards Jarmush, DiCillo, and the other "indie" directors.
In addition, Scorsese has even cast him.

I personally prefer to see him in the "indies." Yes, it's a pain to hunt
out his films, but chances are that the worst "indies" are better than the
best Hollywood films. I'd much rather see a movie like Floundering than
one like Rising Sun. To me, there is almost always more substance to an
"indie" film, and very little in a Hollywood film.

Virtually everything that Hollywood puts out has already been done. Look
at Armageddon. Not only is it coming out two months after Deep Impact,
but there's been an NBC tv movie called Asteroid that just aired for the
2nd time. I'll still go to see Armageddon just to see Steve and hopefully
relax a bit for a few hours, but I'm not going to walk in expecting
anything groundbreaking because I know it won't be there.

Therefore, I say let Steve remain in good roles in "indies" even if they
are impossible to find. They are much more worth the search than the
tickets you buy at the theatre for a Hollywood picture.

Wow --

little did I know that my comment about Steve being in a "GOOD" movie
would have so many people talking! First of all, let me start off by
saying that I didn't mean it in the way that it looked (seems like
I've been saying that a lot lately :) What I meant when I wrote about
him being in a GOOD movie was that it would be nice if he was in a
GOOD HOLLYWOOD movie for a change. The emphasis was on "GOOD" not
because I was implying that "indy" films are bad, but that the
majority of Hollywood films, in my humble opinion, are just not that
good.

Although, I do enjoy those big summer movies; they're a nice break
from reality. So I, too am looking foreword to seeing Steve in
ARMAGEDDON (even if he does go to strip clubs & go crazy on the
asteroid) :)

However, as to Steve's part.....his name was mentioned 10000000 times in the

Plus, his hair was way too short!!!

Subject: Good Movies vs. Indies/Q of the Day

Regarding this Hollywood versus Independent debate:

Personally, I've seen some Hollywood movies that were great and some indie
movies that were just crap. I think I prefer independent films because the
"rules" are a lot more flexible, but hey, I enjoy a good Hollywood big-budget
sci-fi flick as much as anybody else.

I loved Con Air. I loved The Wedding Singer. What I really get a kick out of
is seeing Steve in these big Hollywood movies -- it's almost as if it's my
little secret, you know? There's a whole group of people in the audience with
me watching him, I kinda feel like they're being inducted into a secret club.
So yes, I'll be sixth row center for Armageddon, having a great time. And
hey, you guys forgot one of the plusses of Hollywood movies -- ACTION FIGURES!
>:-) hehehe

But I suppose there's nothing quite as satisfying as searching all over for a
movie you know only by name from a filmography you found on the web, and
finally finding it, only to discover that Steve is only in it for 5 minutes.
I haven't done this in a while, and you know, I miss it. Granted, I saw some
pretty terrible movies this way (don't even get me started on The Last
Outlaw), but it's a challenge, and the reward is always so
satisfying...mmmm....

As for what role Steve would play in my life...husband/director/costar/father
of my kids/wrestling partner. I want to be sitting next to him in a low cut
designer dress at the Shrine Theater the night he wins his Best Supporting
Actor Oscar.

Catch y'all later,

he always plays stuff like that, it's his normal character, I'd have to give

Hello all, happy holidays.

It's too hard to choose one role that Steve was the best in. So, I
choose TREES LOUNGE and his guest appearance on "Homicide" a few years
back. He was great in TREES LOUNGE as a normal guy (kind of) who had a
drinking problem, and many other problems. Even though "Tommy" had
more than his fair share of faults I still found him appealing and
wanted things to work out for him. On the other hand, the character on
"Homicide" was the least likeable character that I've ever seen Steve
play. He was a horribly racist cop killer. But, I liked the way that
Steve and the show's writers' dealt with that character. Movie and TV
people tend to show racists as a bunch dummies, who are more laughable
than somebody who should be feared, or at least have their threats
taken seriously. I liked the way that they showed how "Gordon Pratt"
thought, and made him kind of smart -- not as smart as HE thought he
was, but smarter than your run-of-the-mill racist/criminal on TV and
the Movies. Another reason that I chose these two characters is that
they show Steve's versatility. He's one of the best!

Mystery Train is a Jim Jarmusch movie from 1989. It has three episodes
(kind of), and Steve had a pretty big role in one of them, if I remember
correctly.

Billy Bathgate is a gangster movie from 1991, directed by Robert Benton.
Not that great, but ok. Steve had a (very) small part, I don't even
remember seeing him in it, but still, he made it to the poster. :)

New York Stories is an episode movie from 1989. The three segments are
directed by Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen. I haven't
seen this, and I don't know about Steve's part. Probably not that big.

HI Everyone,

If I ever met Steve I'd have to ask him if firemen really do get cats
down from trees. He used to be a fireman you know. I love cats.

If I had the chance to run into Steve, and according to him I wouldn't be
bothering him, I'd have to ask him the same thing I asked Bruce Campbell
in a chat on-line:

What do you do in your spare time with your kid(s)?

You do remember correctly. Mystery Train starts out following a Japanese
couple travelling to Memphis on vacation. The guy is an Elvis fanatic,
and I think the girl probably was as well. Then the film ends up in a
diner following Tom Noonan's conversation with someone. Finally, we end
up at a motel where we view Steve, Joe Strummer, and Rick Aviles(?)
through the night. The three start out drinking, and by the middle of the
night they hit the road in search of more liquor. The movie ends in the
morning. (I believe everything in the film happens in 24 hours, more or
less.)

Billy Bathgate follows the story of a young man (~16 years old) who winds
up working for "Dutch" Schultz. There truly isn't much more to say than
that. As for Steve, he spent 6 months filming this movie. He's in a fair
amount of it, but I believe he has more lines in Miller's Crossing than he
does in this. The only reason that he gets as much screen time as he does
is the fact that he's Dutch Schultz's henchman.

Ville concluded with:

All of the above is correct. The good news is that the segment that Steve
is in is the first one. The bad news is that they overplay the original
"Whiter Shade of Pale." The story is of the love that Nick Nolte has with
Rosanna (or is it Patricia) Arquette, but she's breaking up with him for
not having a real job. All he does is sit around and paint, so there's
no income. Steve's part is as a performance artist where he does a
monologue standing on some train tracks in a dance club. The monologue,
according to an article that I should have somewhere, was actually written
by Steve. Steve's character is also friends with Arquette which is why
he's in the film.

What to ask Steve?

I'd probably climb up a tree and start meowing.

Seriously, though, if I met him in a normal, everyday situation, I'd
probably just ask him something normal -- "Hey, have you tried the
bagels?" or "Hey, that car's driving by pretty fast, wouldn't you say?"
But more likely..."What are you doing later? Can I buy you dinner?"
Of course, this is assuming I'm able to talk at all.

If it was in some kind of Q & A session, I have no idea what I'd ask him.
I'd probably let everyone else ask the questions. But I'd really be
interested to know whether he is aware that there is a whole army of
people out there that find him incredibly sexy. That'd probably freak him
out, don't ya think?
