Jason Lopez

Jason Lopez studied in the animation track at Cal Arts, the university that Walt Disney helped to launch and which has provided so many fine animators for Disney and the other animation studios. Aside from these sketches of Ariel, Jason has also produced his own 40-second cartoon of a different (yet similar) mermaid in a musical dance with a fish.

Lopez is now part of the animation staff working on a feature version of Comedy Central's popular "South Park" series.

Marci Blattenberger

Marci Blattenberger lives just outside of Nashville, Tenn., with her husband, five cats and a dog named Spike. She enjoys china painting (overglaze on porcelain). She also does a lot of mural work and smaller scale work in pastels, acrylic and some watercolor.

Jozef Szekeres

In his own words ...

"Jozef Szekeres' work has included being a 2D/animator, 3D/animator, animation director, storyboardist, designer, sculptor, comic-book artist and co-writer and co-creator. He has worked for Disney Animation TV and Video Feature depts., and has co-created with Black Mermaid Productions these comic book properties: WaveDancers, Blood Chic and Vogue Attack (appearing in Dart), and Mermist Seas (which will be published soon by Image Comics). I love the Ariel character and it is a pleasure to illustrate her as a hobby."

Jozef, a freelance animator in Australia, has spent the last few months working with Walt Disney Animation Australia, animating Ariel herself for the upcoming direct-to-video sequel, "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea." NOTE: The following art is NOT from the new video sequel; it's artwork Jozef did as a fan in the years before he was hired to work on the new "Mermaid" film.

"Stefano Bottoni lives in Torino, Italy, and as long as he knows he's the only active Arielholic in his Country. He's not a professional artist, even if he'd published something in various magazines, and he publishes a fanzine, "ImagiNation", about European and American animated movies. He's 29 years old. His Disney collection counts over 400 pieces, and the most important section is, of course, about The Little Mermaid. He's member of "Anonima Fumetti" (the Italian Association of Comic Authors) since 1994."

Steve Sullivan
