Richard Taylor on unused wardrobe and props:  "We made travelling-bags for every character in which they could carry whatever their particular requirements might be...you know, loose change, credit-cards, that sort of thing!"  One of the unused wardrobe items includes a helmet for Arwen.

     Liv was born on July 1, 1977 in Portland, Maine to Aerosmith's Steve Tyler and model Bebe Buell.  At age 14, she moved to New York with her mother to be a model but decided after a year to turn to acting.  Some of her other film credits include Silent Fall, Heavy, Empire Records, Stealing Beauty, Inventing the Abbots, and Armageddon.

     On her role as Arwen:  "It wasn't until I came back home after such a long time away that I realized how much hype there was about this.  I get to play someone 3,000 years old.  I'm 23, so that's quite an acting challenge."

     More than 1600 pairs of latex ears and feet were made during the shoot.  Each foot could only be used once, as there was no way of removing the feet without damaging them.  The used feet were shredded to prevent a black market in stolen hobbit feet but it is said that Dominic Monaghan kept a pair.

     Saruman's chamber in Orthanc was built as a massive set carved with chainsaws out of polystyrene.  Some of the decor includes bones from museums and Uruk-hai embryos in jars.  "Orthanc would be a great place to throw a cocktail party."  ~Conceptual artist, Alan Lee.

     

Such loveliness in living thing Frodo had never seen before or imagined in his mind.

     On remembering her days as a teenager: "I was gangly, I had this horrible perm and my teeth were covered in steel... It's still weird to look up at the screen and think that people consider me beautiful.   I'm always embarrassed when I see myself trying to be sexy, because I still see my dorky teenage self.  Sometimes, I still see that young girl who would look in the mirror and think, "Will I ever be attractive?"

     "The story of Aragorn and Arwen is this amazingly romantic kind of love story.  It's beautiful.  They are willing to give up their lives to be together... It's an amazing story.  Even though I complained about being away from home for so long, I really loved doing the three movies.  I guess I've always dreamed of living in a world filled with love, passion and make-believe."
