There were days when she

was the wind of violence. In early times she tried to see the truth
so fair and sound by and by all she got was the thoughts of all around.

Tolkien's The Silmarillion tells of the history of Galadriel's family as well as all Elf-kind. Daughter of Finarfin, she was said to be the most beautiful of all the house of Finwe. She is of the Eldar, originally dwelling in the land of Valinor before even the sun and moon were created. Her grandfather, Finwe was the first Elf to ever be slain - killed by Sauron's master, Morgoth. Her daughter Celebrian is wife to Elrond, making Arwen her grand-daughter. Lady Galadriel and her husband Lord Celeborn of Doriath offer the Fellowship supplies, gifts and a chance to rest while the group are protected within their borders. "It sounds ridiculous, but one of the reasons I wanted to play Galadriel was for the ears: I've always wanted pointy ears!" After completing her work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the design team presented her with a gift - they bronzed her elf ear prosthetics.

I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew: Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in the branches blew. Beyond the Sun, beyond the Moon, the foam was on the Sea, And by the strand of Ilmarin there grew a golden Tree. Beneath the stars of Ever-eve in Eldamar it shone, In Eldamar beside the walls of Elven Tirion. There long the golden leaves have grown upon the branching years, While here beyond the Sundering Seas now fall the Elven-tears. O Lorien! The Winter comes, the bare and leafless Day; The leaves are falling in the stream, the River flows away. O Lorien! Too long I have dwelt upon this Hither Shore And in a fading crown have twined the golden eleanor. But if of ships I know should sing, what ship would come to me, What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea? ~Galadriel's Song of Eldamar.
'Venerable Elrond seemed as a king crowned with many winters, and yet hale as a tried warrior in the fullness of his strength.'

"Whatever the outcome, the Elves will leave Middle-earth and be forgotten. There is, therefore, a sadness about Elrond which made me decide that - although he is an Elf, - he also needed to have humanity, and that is what I have tried to bring to my performance."
