When David was 13, he received a scholarship to New York's Collegiate School where John F. Kennedy Jr. also attended. After high school, David went on to Princeton and earned his Bachelor's degree for English literature in 1982. For his Master of Arts degree, he attended Yale. David started acting while in Yale and never finished his dissertation "Magic and Technology in Contemporary Poetry and Prose."
