Cobber is a creation of Mike Browner. The Space Rovers -- "Out Back on the Outback" The scene is just outside the famous Opera House in Sydney. It is evening, the perfromance has just ended. Among the patrons who are now exiting through the front doors are Cobber and Sheena. They have spent the last three days together, realizing that in a few short days the Canius Minor will be returning to duty in space. The couple pause near the huge fountain and gaze up at the full moon. SHEENA (dreamily): It's so beautiful here, isn't it Cobbie? COBBER (nods): That it is, my love! SHEENA (lowers head sadly): In a few days, I'll be gone again... COBBER (looks into Sheena's eyes): Let's not think about that now, darling! We'll make the most of the time we have left! SHEENA (hugs Cobber): I know you're right, Cobbie! COBBER (excited): Just think about tommorrow! We'll be going on that journey into the outback! You and I are going to have so much fun! SHEENA (hugs Cobber tighter): I don't want this week to end! As Cobber and Sheena exchange another kiss, a loud BOOM!!!! shakes the ground in front of them. Instantly appearing before them are Otto, Samantha Maddog, the Gila Monster, Starlight and Princess. SHEENA (jumps backward): Blimey! You bloaks scared the living daylights out of me! COBBER (shocked): Alright, what is this all about? SAMANTHA (sadly): Please forgive us for our sudden appearance, but we need your help! OTTO (nods): My wife speaks the truth. Our old nemisis the Leader has reestablished his headquarters in Austrailia. Recently his followers raided an Austrailian Military Research Center in an attempt to steal the secrets to their recent discoveries on anti-sleath detection technology. GILA MONSTER (waving his 2 x 4): I don't care what that clown did, I jist wants to beat up him and his goons! STARLIGHT (nods): The Master said you knew the area better than any other Rover, will you please help us? As Starlight was speaking, several Sydney City Police officers surround them. OFFICER (points): Hey, you dog creatures! Get that old white horse outta here! This is an Opera House, not a stable! STARLIGHT (angry): I may be a white horse, sir, but I am not OLD! ANOTHER OFFICER (shocked): I must be going bonkers! That horse really talked! GILA MONSTER (swings 2 x 4): And if you goobers don't leave my friend Starlight alone, you're gonna be saying hello to my 2 x 4! ANOTHER OFFICER (angry): You crazy yank! Are you threatening us? OTTO (steps in front of the Gila): There is no need for further discussion, officer, we will comply with your orders and leave. OFFICER (points): And while your at it, put a leash on that green iguana! Can't 'ave wild animals like that running loose! GILA MONSTER (furious): Iguana! I'll iguana you! PRINCESS (holds the Gila back): Don't do it, dear! We've on a mission, remember? COBBER (smiles): We better leave before the whole lot of us get arrested! OTTO (nods): Agreed! Here we go... With a loud BOOM!!!! the officers watch as the Rovers and their friends vanish. OFFICER (shakes head): It must be the stress..... Soon Cobber, Sheena, Otto, Samantha, Starlight, Princess and the Gila Monster are standing near a range of high rock formations in the Great Victoria Desert. Cobber and Sheena grin as they look around. COBBER (happy): I know this place! SHEENA (nods): Me too, Cobbie! OTTO (points): I brought us here because of the strange radio signals coming from that direction. These signals are consistant with the same frequencies and amplitude used by the Leader. STARLIGHT (concerned): Something's wrong here. According to my scans, there should at least fifty humans standing right in front of us, but my opitical sensors detect no one in the vicinity. GILA MONSTER (looks around): And there ain't nobody here, neither! COBBER (giggles): Brilliant bit of detective work, mate! GILA MONSTER (wide smile): Thank you, Cobber! And some folks think I'm so dumb.... OTTO (looks around): I am also receiving these apparently false life sign readings, this is very odd. SAMANTHA (scared): I don't like this......seems very spooky! PRINCESS (looks at Samantha): Sam, honey, we're out in the middle of nowhere. What could go wrong? Suddenly, a trap door opens up beneath them, causing all of them to fall to the bottom of a deep shaft. Otto, Samantha and Starlight use their anti-gravity rays to slow their decent, so they all touch the bottom 'standing up.' SAMANTHA (smirks): Does this answer your question, Miss Princess, ma'am? PRINCESS (shyly): Me and my big mouth! OTTO (begins to stagger): Something is affecting my internal systems.... STARLIGHT (starts to wobble): Mine also, Otto At that moment, a small platoon of soldiers led by the Leader and his second in command Mr Tims walks towards the group. Princess, Sheena and Cobber draw their laser pistols. LEADER (laughs): Go right ahead, SHOOT US!!! Your energy weapons have been drained, just like Otto and that stupid white horse of yours! My energy absorbing field works rather well, doesn't it? GILA MONSTER (waves 2 x 4): I don't needs energy to bash your sorry face in! The Gila Monster charges towards him, only to 'bounce off of' an invisible force field. LEADER (laughs): This time, I thought of everything! SAMANTHA (upset): You're killing my husband and Starlight! They'll both die without energy in their systems! LEADER (laughs): That's the whole idea, Samantha! You lousy creatures won't interfere with my plans any longer! That chamber you are standing in has been sealed with force fields. The air is slowly being pumped out of it, all of you will be dead in minutes! COBBER (turns to Samantha): Sam! Use your collar to teleport us outta here! SAMANTHA (shakes head): I can't, Mr Cobber, sir. The energy absorbing field has drained my collar's energy also... SHEENA (shakes head): Why are you doing this? LEADER (laughs): Because I have what I came for! (holding a zip disk): This zip disk contains all of the anti-shealth data your government has! I'll return to my hideout in the states and sell these secrets to the highest bidder! Now, if you'll excuse me, my followers and I are leaving. The Leader and his soldiers rush down the hallway as the remaining Road Rovers begin gasping for air. That's when Cobber notices the 'mess' in the corner just outside the force field. There are two huge electrical wires that have been cut and were still connected to the wiring panels of the adjacent wall. COBBER (turns to Sheena): I got an idea, love! Use your levatation powers to bring those two huge wires to the force field, that'll sap it's energy and we'll be free! SHEENA (shakes head): No, Cobbie! That'll disrupt the force field for only a split second.... PRINCESS (excited): A split second is all I need! DO IT! Sheena turns towards the corner and concentrates. Slowly, the two huge cut wires move towards the force field. The second the two wires 'touch' the field, Princess uses her powers and 'freezes' time. She walks through the 'disrupted' force field and begins searching for a control panel in the wall. When she finds it, she 'restarts' time and deactivates all of the force fields and the energy draining field. COBBER (shocked): Blimey! How'd you do that, Princess? SHEENA (breathes deep): We can breathe again! GILA MONSTER (angry): We gotta stop that Leader goon! SAMANTHA (stooped over Otto and Starlight): Otto and Starlight are too weak to move! It's up to the rest of you to stop that evil man! COBBER (motions forward): C'mon gang! There's no time to lose! Cobber, Sheena, Princess and the Gila Monster rush down the hallway. Climbing the long ladder they find at the hallway's end, the four are now outside and watch in horror as the Leader's escape jet powers up to take off. COBBER (points): Look! They're closing the door! We have to stop them NOW!!! Princess immediately 'freezes' time again. She runs towards the jet plane and 'squeezes' through the half shut door. PRINCESS (talking to herself): I have to work fast, I can only keep time frozen for a minute! Princess rushes into the cockpit and rips out several control panels. She barely sneaks back out of the plane when time 'restarts'. The jets 'crackle' and then power down as smoke is seen through the cockpit window. SHEENA (shocked): What a stroke of luck! Let's take'm! Cobber and the Gila Monster grab the door and rip it off it's hinges. The two enter the plane and begin beating up bad guys. As some of the soldiers attempt to jump out of the jet's escape windows, Sheena uses her levatations powers to lift them up and 'strand' them atop of nearby trees. This continues until the Gila Monster and Cobber exit the plane. COBBER (happy): Looks like we got'm all! GILA MONSTER (angry): Not all of them, where's the Leader? SHEENA (looks up into the trees): I don't see him! Suddenly, they hear loud barking and blood curdling screams a short distance away. The four run over to investigate and discover that Samantha has tackled the Leader and is standing standing over him, and growling loudly. SAMANTHA (growling): That's the second time you've tried to kill my husband! Rover or no Road Rover, I'm going to make you suffer! LEADER (scared): PLEASE!! NO!!! HAVE MERCY!!! Samantha pounces on the Leader, biting him so fiercely that Sheena and Princess grab her by the arms and pull her away. SAMANTHA (struggling): LET ME GO! HE'S MINE! COBBER (shakes head): Sorry, Sam, as much as he deserves it, we just can't let you do this LEADER (struggles to stand): You dogs are fools! As the Leader turns to run away, he sees Otto and Starlight standing in his way. LEADER (laughs): You two are too powerless to stop me! OTTO (growling): I wouldn't bet on that! Otto and Starlight fire their eye lasers repeatedly at the Leader's feet, causing him to 'dance'. GILA MONSTER (laughs): That's it guys, give that no good idgit a REAL hot foot! Soon, the Leader is exhausted and falls to the ground, bleeding and bruised in several places. Samantha sees her husband and runs over to give him a warm embrace. SHEENA (sadly): As much as I'd like to let'm suffer, I'm a doctor so I have to treat his injuries... SAMANTHA (crying): I thought you and Starlight were dying, how did you ... OTTO (smiling); We grabbed those two loose wires and used them to the recharge ourselves STARLIGHT (nods): Those wires led to the main generator, we had time to recharge and join you up here PRINCESS (smiles): And just in time, too! LEADER (angry): You lousy creatures! I'll get all of you for this! SHEENA (makes the Leader lay down flat): Stop squirmin' around, you crazy yank! I 'ave to bandage you! Any more remarks like that and I'll bandage your mouth shut! OTTO (nods): I have contacted the Austrailian Police, they are on their way here. PRINCESS (holds up zip disk): They'll be using this as evidence in your trial, Leader! LEADER (surprised): How did you get that? It was in my front coat pocket! PRINCESS (snickers): Being a former pick-pocket has it's advantages sometimes! COBBER (happy): Looks like that wraps up this case! We're Road Rovers! All of the Rovers howl in unison, the Gila Monster tries to howl but it sounds aweful. COBBER (puts hands on Gila's shoulder): We gotta work on your howl, mate! GILA MONSTER (confused): Why? I practice all the time and I think I sounds really good! PRINCESS (smiles): Perhaps you and me can work on that later...together, OK? GILA MONSTER (big grin): Whatever you say, my dear! The scene now switchs back to the Sydney Opera House, three hours later. All of the others have returned to Mission Control as once again, Sheena and Cobber find themselves alone and staring at the moon. SHEENA (sadly): Two more days, and then I'll be leaving with the Space Rovers COBBER (holds her hand): And I'll be returning to active duty with the Road Rover Elite. SHEENA (looks sadly into Cobber's eyes): Will you remember me, Cobbie? COBBER (smiles): I'll be counting the days till you return! SHEENA (smiles); Oh Cobber! The two embrace and have a long, passionate kiss ---------------------------------------------------------------------
