Jack and Carly's History

Thanks to Kayla

Jack and Carly met when Jack went to Musselshell, Montana (Carly's hometown) with Holden and Molly Conlan in early fall 1997. J&C were attracted to each other from the start, but Carly was leery to get involved with Jack because she didn't think he would be easy to manipulate into a quick marriage (Carly's sister Rosanna set up a trust that stipulated if Carly got married and had a child with her husband by December 31, 1998, her baby would get $50, 000, 000, money which Carly would control; it was a plot to keep Carly away from Mike Kasnoff), so she set her sights on Hal Munson. But no matter how much time Carly spent with Hal, the pull between her and Jack just didn't disappear; it only got stronger, especially since they were constantly thrown together in these close situations, like when Carly went undercover with Jack to bust a diamond fence named Vic Robinson. Jack even made a bet with Margo Hughes that he could break up Hal and Carly's relationship, knowing full well that while he was saying that he was ''doing Hal a favor'', he was really making it possible for him to get the woman HE wanted. Anyway, everything for Jack and Carly came to a head when they got locked in this shed in the mountains and were left to die (Jack was trying to prove that a crooked cop named Joe Teague had, along with other crimes such as racially harassing Jack's friend Ben Harris and burning down a church, severely beat up Molly, a crime which she was trying to pin on Holden in the hopes that it would keep Holden and Lily apart, and Carly accidentally got caught up in his investigation); they confessed their feelings for each other and promised that when they got back to Oakdale they would tell Hal that they wanted to be together and then they'd commit to a real relationship.

This would have all been possible, except Teague found them after they'd escaped from the shed and were on their way back home-there was a struggle, and in the end, Teague was dead but Jack had also suffered a terrible abdominal wound, and was unable to be the kind of lover that Carly wanted (and needed, for that $50 million baby!). So, when Hal proposed, Carly accepted, and they eventually wed (by this time, Jack had found out about the trust agreement, and on the day Hal and Carly were to be married, he confronted her about it-Michael and Maura just blew me away in those scenes!)...but neither time, nor changes in their lives (Carly getting pregnant; Jack meeting, dating, and eventually getting engaged to, Julia; Hal and Carly divorcing and her marrying first John Dixon, then Jack's older brother Brad) lessened the connection between Jack and Carly; Jack even helped Carly through the birth of her son Parker in his living room just before midnight on December 31, 1998! Then on a late June evening in 1999, the same night Jack witnessed Reid Hamilton (AKA David, James Stenbeck's supposedly deceased son-that's a WHOLE other story, LOL!) slip an engagement ring on Julia's finger, Jack and Carly got locked in The Lakeview's wine cellar, and their passion exploded-if Hal and Barbara hadn't walked in, they would have made love that night for sure! The wine cellar incident, of course, set in motion Jack and Carly's *true* reunion, and on July 21, 1999, they *finally* made love for the first time in the very same boathouse they were in a few weeks ago. J&C's commitment to each other, and to a future together, was very strong at that point...but as is the case every time Jack and Carly get close to getting EXACTLY what they want, someone had to rip it away from them, and in this case it was Brad, who publically revealed Carly's secret (that Hal, not John, was really Parker's father, and Carly had kept the truth quiet so she could hang on to the $50 million), and then further drove a knife into Jack's heart by telling him that he {Brad} and Carly had indeed consummated their marriage. Jack broke up with Carly and swore he would never get involved with her again...but as we very well know, you just can't fight fate, LOL!

They ended up making this bet last fall that Carly couldn't go until Christmas without telling a lie, and the prize was another chance at love between them. Well, Carly, knowing how much she loved Jack and couldn't stand to think of a life without him, kept up her part of the bargain, and was HANDSOMELY rewarded...December 27, 1999...Jack took her up to this mountain top, presented her with a deed to the land (to build their dream house on), and asked her to marry him. It was the PINNACLE Jack and Carly day! After that, Jack and Carly happily planned their wedding, but Carly was constantly spooked by references to Hong Kong (the place where she'd gone to when she left Oakdale the first time)...in fact, she was downright afraid, but she plowed through because she wanted to be Mrs. Jack Snyder more than anything in the world. And she *really* believed that they would make it, but on the day of Jack and Carly's wedding, Carly's Hong Kong past caught up with her (at this point, the fans really didn't know exactly what it entailed, and we didn't find that out~Carly being married to a powerful Hong Kong businessman, Winston Lowe~until Maura returned to the show after she gave birth to her second son), and she was forced to lie to Jack that she was going to Paris for a fabulous career opportunity, instead of telling him that his life and Parker's were being threatened by her maniacal ex (or so she thought he was her ex!).

Carly was rushed away from Oakdale and Jack was left holding the pieces of the plans he'd made with Carly...and that was basically it, until Carly returned to town when Parker was injured in the car accident with Bryant Montgomery and Jennifer Munson and J&C ran into each other at Oakdale Memorial. And everything that's happened since then-Jack proposing to Julia and marrying her, Carly associating herself with Craig Montgomery, Julia purposely throwing away her birth control pills so she'd get pregnant-they've all been ways to keep Jack and Carly apart, but it won't work forever, because as you've seen in my brief sypnosis of J&C's relationship, they ALWAYS get back together!~
