The Legal Curfew
Jeff's Opinion: Personally, I think that forcing people into their homes at a certain time is one of the most fascist ideas I've ever heard. Everyone is treated as though they have committed a crime and deserve to be locked up each night. Powerful politicians totally ignore the work that teenagers do, and will do for the community. Plus, the one's who must follow the law are not even allowed to vote on it; how just is that? Also, I don't understand the necessity for a curfew when there are already plenty of laws that prevent murder, theft, and harm to any citizens. The curfew is just an excuse for lazy cops who don't feel like working nights.

The People's Opinion:
I think the curfew is a terrible idea. The reason for the curfew is because the adults of the world blame many of society's problems on teenagers. And, if any of the problems are related to teenagers, the blame should be put on the parents. Instead of accepting the fact that how their kid acts is mostly based on their upbringing of the child, they find ways to restrict the kid from acting at all. The ones who vote yes for the curfew are the ones who are afraid of their (i'm not sure if this is the right word for what i mean) reputation being scarred by he truth that they raised their kid to be who he/she is. Now that might make sense, or it might sound like crap. I'm not good with words, so I tried as best I could with getting out my idea. Also (i didn't want to repeat) I totally agree with Jeff. This was in addition to his.

Curfews seem to be necessary for some folks. Those people feel that by keeping a child locked up he will not cause trouble, which is true. But, we must realize who really does cause the trouble. A child who does cause trouble will be apt to cause more. To this child, breaking the curfew would not amount to much of anything. He will continue to break the law. He will not obey the curfew and he will definitely not obey the other laws which govern our moral minds. For every single one of these bad seeds, there are nineteen others who do not deserve to be kept in, to pay the crimes of the minority. It is not an equitable law, since the kids who will not break the curfew are not the ones that the law is trying to punish. Those, whose actions caused the passing of curfew legislation, will only continue to get into trouble since they will first of all break the curfew law and secondly since they will break just about any law there is, potentially. Therefore, it would be a silly, antediluvian way of protecting the populace. Instead of having a permanent curfew for teenagers, it might be more suitable to place the bad-seed-teens in jail for a longer time or have the courts place their parents in jail or make them pay fines. But there should be no right in justifying, nor shall there be no sense in legalizing a practice that burdens the rights of many with the punishments of the few.

When a parent sets a curfew, it is out of love. Protecting ones young is the responsibility of all parents. There is also the Legal Curfew, total bull shit! I, personally, am very proud of my nation, but on occasion I am offended and insulted to a point were I feel it necessary to take action. I am not a man who instigates revolution, The only way that there will ever be change is threw the legal process. When I am limited by a law that is just, I feel no anger. But when I am controlled by some suit in an office I have never seen, I am enraged. This can not stand!

I think that curfews, made by parents, are fine, since the parents know how responsible or irresponsible their own child is. The legal curfew on the otherhand is completely irrational. Why punish all teenagers as a whole because of the very small percentage of teens who commit crimes? Although not technically a curfew, the law that prohibits young drivers from driving after 9:00 is the worst example of such a law. If the state that you live in gives you a driver's license, why should you be able to drive during the day, when there is more traffic, and not be able to drive at night, when there is very little traffic?? In short, Legal curfews should be made illegal!

I think that Jeff is totally right because it is so wrong to force people into their homes at a certain time.

Youth Curfews are not a bad idea. For certain cities were there is a large
percentage of crime they do serve good, an example is Cincinnati: when they got a youth
curfew the crime rate dropped by 17%, that is not bad. But in many cases youth curfews are
too harsh; they do ban your right as a citizen, and it is against the constitution (as the
frist amendment states: CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW ABRIDGING OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO
ASSEMBLE)In my view curfews should be controlled to a point where certain people (such as
people with crimnal record) should not be alloued past the crufew time. Then there is
those youths that are caught by chance being past the curfew (for whatever the reason),
youth enjoing the night for purpuse such as watching the stars, ect... In many cases
youths are victmised by the older generation, if you look in a paper, I can grantee you
that if you look in a news paper you will find 90% of the articles basing teens for crimes
such as robbing, murder, and general stupidty ect... I saw an article the other day saying
that a youth burally murder a elderly person. I was suprised to learn that the
"youth" was at an age of 19. My point being that youth is victmised by sociaty,
and because of that, every single teenage under the age of 18 or 16 has to suffer. That is
total ridiculus and full of it. By far in my opion curfews that do limit youth that are
potential dangerous to the public should be keep indor, the rest should not be banned from
their freedom to be a person - after all, aren't we a DEMOCRACY, not a totalitarian or
authorian state?
P.S. please don't be offened by the e-mail address, I don't mean all americans, only those
oppsing my freedom (such as Zipper Gate Billy)
