School
Jeff's Opinion: I think school (high school anyway) sucks. Yeah, I know what you're all thinkin'...NO SHIT! But I have bigger reasons to hate school than loads of pointless work with no rewards and a bunch of hypocritical teachers who think they know what life is all about. There's nothing wrong with education, but school has corrupted this process. Just look at how biased most governments are when choosing which subjects should be emphasized and those that are to be ignored. Thanks to being forced to waste me brain capacity with information about subjects that I am not interested in, I have seriously diminished my chances of achieving the kind of musical talent that I am aiming towards. The melodies of Mozart astound me, but I fear that neither me or anyone else in the world will ever reach his capabilities because of the unimportance of music in America today. I do understand and appreciate what education has made me to be and I do think those who attend school are GENERALLY more aware of life's lessons and observations, but I do think school lacks the type of experience necessary to become truly diverse and, well, experienced. We just sit in a room all day and assume what our teachers tell us is right. Slight changes in the system, like these, may prove to be worthwhile to individual and societal success.
UPDATE: I have now entered college, and I must say these are the GREATEST years of my life. I am studying what I want to study, there is much more time and freedom to have shit loads of fun, and rules have been thrown out the window. You will not realize how pathetic highschool routines are until you go away to a higher education. Even just those stupid bells in between classes to let you know when class begins and ends seems so brain-washing. As if we can't tell time. I think if someone is going to be late, the bell isn't going to make a difference...it only gets them in trouble. Anyway, anyone who is in high school reading this: GO TO COLLEGE!! You will not regret it! (oh, and i recommend choosing one at least a few hours from your home to be away from your parents). There is hope.

I'll tell you why high school sucks. You have teachers, parents,
principals, guidance counsellers, the media all telling you what you should be. But you
know what you SHOULD be. Everyone wants you to get good grades, be popular, have a
girlfriend and write a fucking bestseller. But what if you are confused and don't know
what you want to be, what if you are funny looking and can't get a girlfriend. No one
wants to hear about that. High school is smoke and mirrors, bullshit. Math, English and
Social Studies do not determine your future. Teachers, parents and guidance counsellers do
not determine your future. There is only one person who knows what you should be and that
is you. The things you should learn are the things that will most apply to what you want
to be. If you don't know what you want to be don't fucking worry, even though everyone
will be telling you to (most of us have no idea what we want to be by the time high school
is over with). Follow your heart, foll!
ow your dreams and fuck anybody else who tells you otherwise. Stand tough and be who and
what you are. And remember that things can only get better after high school if you follow
your dreams.
Just because Math might be important for Joe doesn't mean it will be important for Susan.
You have to decide what is best for you and go for it. Don't let anyone get in the way of
your dreams.
