Boats Click on the images to see full size versions. Canal boat along side the tug Ceris. On the deck of the Ceris can bee seen a set of jaws. This tells us she was a converted canal boat. With the advent of steam power, tugs were used to pull the boats up the Songo River. I am sure the boatmen were more than happy to let the tugs perform this task. It had to have been the hardest 2 miles of the trip. |
Canal boat at a common lake side landing. This photo shows the lake as
it was before the level was raised in the mid 20th century. It was much shallower and more
dangerous. Now, with the higher level, it is safer for pleasure craft. |
