Built by William A. Rive of Great Falls Village The George Washington was the first boat to traverse the entire length of the canal. She was fitted out as a passenger boat including a bar, the proprieters hoping to utilize the canal for passenger service. This however did not pan out and the "George Washington" was refitted for hauling freight. She suffered a common end for a canal boat. Abondoned below Kemp's Locks, she slowly disappeared. |
