"I've Seen It All"
Joga Reports On Dancer In The Dark
24/05/01

Well I finally got to see it!.. Dancer In The Dark, the movie I have been dying to see since I first caught wind of it in 1999,
and as I write this review, I still feel somewhat sullen, shocked, sad,
and like I could burst out into song and dance at any given moment.
I have seen alot of movies, and alot of good ones at that, but this I must say,
(and I don't say this just because I am a Bjork fan)..
Dancer in The Dark is the absolute best movie I have ever seen!
And my arse hurt like hell after sitting on the edge of my seat for a total of 140 minutes but I just couldn't move, I was completely absorbed in the exquisitely twisted mixture of events and emotions that was Dancer in The Dark.
And as a Bjork admirer I must say her performance as Selma was amazingly genuine, she didn't just act, she acted so well and with such emotion,
that it seemed as if she wasn't acting at all.
The movie audience totaled 60 people max
(a considerable amount considering the theatre was hidden in a museum,
not the most obvious place to look),
and I guarantee at least 58 of those people were in tears and making a conscious decision not to lose control of themselves completely,
and even though I prepped myself for a solid week before,
I too had a wee weep there in the darkness of the humble theatre.
Every last microscopic thread of the movie was ingeniously composed,
but it was the ending that ripped through us all like a rusty bayonet the most.
It was the ending that made us all stay 5 minutes after the movie had finished and stare off blankly into the silence of the room.
The ending was the definitely the best part,
but just incase you are unlucky enough to not have seen DITD yet,
I won't spoil it for you by telling you what happens,
if you've seen it then you'll know hat I'm talking about,
and if you haven't, then you have alot to look forward to,
and it's a real bargain at just a $10 entry fee.
