Through the gentle terrain of 100 year old trees and million dollar houses lies a gorgeous park with rapids and a nice picnic area. Wander up to the visitors center and you will notice a sign which points to the rapids overlooks (to the right). Take
thatpath for 1 tenth of a mile and climb up on some rocks (don't slip!) and enjoy watching the fearce rapids pound the rockswhich lie in the path of the destructive wrath of the water. Be sure to take a camera along or some binoculars for the spectacular sights that can and will be seen. Don't go on a cold day, because up on those rocks with the wind blowingin your face is not a delightful sensation. However, on a nice warm spring or
summer day with a gentle breeze, you'll feel like you're in heaven.
As stated above, all of these photos were takenwith a brand new (about 8 days) Nikon F100 and either a Sigma 70-210 f/2.8 or a Nikkor 28-105 f/3.5-4.5. As a mid-level beginner, this is my first ever experience with Nikon. For the beginning of my
photographic experiences, I useda Canon Rebel G with two pretty slow lenses. I was going to buy the Canon EOS-1N but I just couldn't resist the NikonF100. With about a $2200 setback at the start, I hope to take award winning photographs (I'll a long ways from that, however). For a back-up body, I'm thinking of the 5005 or 6006 or possibly the F3, but I'm still on the fence about that.
There are two different sides to Great Falls. The Virginia side (in Fairfax County) and the Maryland side (in Montgomery County). There isn't really
a "better" side to the river I feel because I have talked to people who like both. I have only photographed the Virginia side; however, I will have Maryland side photos up here as soon as I get out there (please stand by...). I strongly recommend Great Falls for anybody witha nack for nature and craves great scenes which can (and should be)
